They had faith in him. They expected Dorsey to contribute immediately. Guy was a senior, top rebounder (translated well into the pro game), and was 2 time college champion. He had 7 feet wingspan, was built like Ron Artest and dunked over everyone in college. You would be nuts to think he wouldn't contribute. If you thought they were wrong in Dorsey, then maybe you're right. But everyone saying we missed the boat on the that pick or we could have gotten Jordan needs a history lesson. We lose absolutely nothing if Dorsey busts.
It doesn't matter if Dorsey was a throw-in or not and that DM picked a bad player. It wouldn't be normal for somebody to make perfect decisions all the time anyway.
Top Rebounder in College DOES NOT translate at all...in the NBA the amount of strength and size difference is very much so different, thats why he has yet to be effective at the NBA level. 2 Time College Champion ? He didn't even win the national championship once.. And he is not near as athletic or physical as Ron Artest. Artest was a high first round pick for a reason while Dorsey likewise was a second round pick for a reason.
Lol @ 2 time college champion. Memphis has never won an NCAA championship in men's basketball in their history. Looks like the OP needs to get his facts straight.
Lol, not sure anyone should listen to anything roslolian has to say after he fabricated TWO national championships for Joey Dorsey and proclaimed him a top rebounder in college bball. Did he average a triple-double for his college career too? Lol. Some people are willing to say anything, even if it means damaging their credibility, just to avoid admitting certain things like Joey Dorsey sucks.
What's your point... to cover Morey's back. The fact is Dorsey was our pick no matter how you put it. Someone from the Rockets Organization wanted him and authorized the pick. Unless their is evidence to the contrary Daryl Morey gets the credit. The fact is the kid looked like he had a lot of potential. He is a beast. The problem is he is also not the brightest kid on the block. Not the worst draft pick especially considering how many drafted players never make it past the first year in the NBA. If you really look at Morey's history he is probably given too much credit. Everyone wants to give Morey more credit than he probably deserves. If you believe the papers Brooks was Adelman's pick as was Budinger. CD said Lindsey found Landry. CD also said they had been trying to get Scola for a long while and it was only when San Antonio became desperate for cash that they were able to get him. So when you break it down Morey really gets credit for binging in Arriza, trading for Lowry and Artest. And Losing Greene and a first round draft choice in the process and of coursee the signing of Dorsey. Drafting Taylor and Lull this year and signing Andersen. Not too bad but not miracle worker type stuff either.
LOL yes my bad I deserved that. looking back the Gators were the ones who repeated. My point is it was not a wasted pick, because the "pick" was fabricated out of thin air. IMHO Dorsey doesn't really suck per se, its just that we have way better bigs in the rotation that giving him PT in the off chance he would develop doesn't make sense at all. Putting him in a team that need Cs like the Raps or Minny might do wonders for him. As for cred I didn't really have any in the first place, so I couldn't care less.
He's not even big enough for the center position. He's 6-8 Chuck is one of the shortest centers in NBA history at 6-6
Dorsey WAS our pick. The same way Budinger, Landry, Donte Green, etc. are all our picks. We had deals in place and the other team picked the player. As for Dorsey the player, I think Morey expected him to contribute similarly to how Blair has done in SA this year. Sort of a all-around garbage man who can keep a spot in the rotation. Unfortunately, he just didn't pan out. It happens.
You can't cut hairs like that. Dorsey is as much our pick as Carl Landry was in 07 or Chase Budinger was this year. And you cant call him just a throw in because if the Rockets saw him as just a throw in they certainly would not have signed him to a multi-year contract.
Kinda funny how the only thing on this thread worth looking at is the Valerie Bertanellie ad at the bottom.
Dorsey was picked by the Rockets. It was just a bad pick -- it happens. As for the contract, you can blame the Carl Landry situation the year before, but at the time, a 4-year deal with two team options looked very good and flexible for the Rockets. Had Dorsey panned out like they initially projected it could have been terrific. I don't think anyone expected Dorsey to have the kind of year he did (almost no progress) in his first season.
Upper classmen have had a greater opportunity to evidence what their character is, therefore it may be that DM the GM believes this can serve as a judge for what to expect in work ethic, team concept et al, i.e. what the fit and future should be like.
