I think I mentioned this at least once or twice... if you look at our roster.. chuck and shane were also 4 year seniors.
Well most of the younger guys with heaps of untapped potential go in the top 20s, with 2nd round picks you are likely to either draft older players or overseas projects.
i wouldnt go too hard yet on Taylor remember brooks hardly played his rookie year and only started to get consistent minutes his second year in. I would give Taylor a chance he happens to play the position that at the beg of the season has the most depth (shane, ariza, tmac, chase) and though tmac is no longer with the team you see AB/Kyle share the backcourt a lot too. So far I would Dorsey has been the one guy that hasnt quite panned out but i think that also should be taken in context of Morey's success. How many team's actually have their second round draft picks become solid contributers? There really isnt too many if anything Dorsey has followed the path of the avg second round pick.
True, but essentially those picks were purchased/traded for by the Rockets, which means they were chosen by the Rockets. Heck, I am pretty sure we definitely grabbed Landry via giving up something.
I think it has more to do with us having late draft picks. If we had a top pick, then I think we would go with a younger dude with more potential (i.e. Rubio who we supposedely had a hard on for).
You forgot teh Lulz I'm sure we'll be seeing him a couple of years down the road...maybe why Lowry wasn't renewed? Anyway, the previous posters nailed it: DM drafting seniors were a result of us having late draft picks and these guys being undervalued. Quite simply, they were the best (or the perceived "best") talent available at the time. Senior or not has nothing to do with it, DM drafts BPA every single time. Case in point would be Donte Greene, guy was a one and donner, yet we still traded for him (and would have kept him had Artest not been available).
Dorsey wasn't drafted by DM I don't really like making narrow threads like this, but it really irks me how people say Dorsey was the only blemish in DM's picks, and people counter by saying "give him time" or whatever. What's even crazier is you have posters complaining how we could have had guys like De Andre Jordan or whatever instead of Dorsey, yet DM picked the low ceiling senior! Let's get it straight: Dorsey was a throw-in. If you would believe the grapevine, DM's shortlist at the time consisted of high potential forwards-guys like Batum and Greene among others. When it came to the draft, the Rockets picked Batum, which served two purposes: 1) trade bait for the Blazers, and 2) blocked the Spurs out of their pick. (ed's note:It isn't 100% confirmed that Batum was the Spurs pick, but its worth noting that the Spurs sent a mass email asking if anyone wants their pick (lol). They eventually settled on George Hill, the lucky bastards.) At any rate, Batum eventually got traded for Dorsey and the dude with liver problems, who was eventually traded straight up for Greene. As you can see, Dorsey was just a throw-in to the deal. The main objective was Greene all along, Dorsey was someone they thought who could contribute immediately ala Chuck Hayes. Whether or not he pans out is irrelevant, its like complaining about the free umbrella the bank sent you For the record Dorsey hasn't been a complete bust. He's one of the D league leaders in rebs and blocks, which is pretty good for a 2nd round soph. IMHO had he not played on a different team (i.e. without RA), he might have seen the court already.
I don't believe it. You don't give someone a similar contract to a first round pick if you didn't have faith in him.
