Well, it is pretty obvious what the answer is to Sammy's "x+1>1"

Its just funny how some people will get all worked up on the slightest perceived negativity towards Obama, even though I didn't post this to bash him.

My experience with the recipients of these type of government handouts is that they are not exactly appreciative. More like demanding. Leeches.

I was a recipient of government handouts throughout my childhood. My apartment housing and utilities were heavily subsidized, my lunches at school were provided, my mother who was habitually unemployed received food stamps, and I received health care through medicaid (only real medical issue resulted from a broken arm). I lived in a predominantly Republican part of Ohio, and my benefits did not change throughout my childhood. The experience was markedly disadvantaged, yet I was grateful because I was not overlooked and left for what I was born into.

Today, I am a medical student at a top institution with a full tuition scholarship.
After hearing my story, would you still wish there were no government handouts?

Actually it could in theory change substantially, depending on where those people are.

And by the way - as has been chronicled many times - the overall spending per person by the federal government, vis a vis tax revenues - is heavily weighted in favor of rural areas - which is why red states are net siphons and blue states are net donors to federal revenues.

    See above.

Let's unpack your puzzlement some more - what precisely was your expectation then and what data did you base this assumption on?

That's fresh, change the context after your "x+1 > x" theory got blown out of the the water.

    backtracking much?

Again I'm going to ask you why you are suprised at this ratio, and precisely what data you based it on - we're on page 2 and we haven't figured it out yet.

It obviously motivated you to start a thread, but yet you won't discuss - what is the big secret?

Why would they build an additional subway line in manhattan when they can build a whole subway in Lufkin, Texas - the whole thing seems fishy to me...nay, surprising. The math just doesn't add up.

    Not very surprising.

I'm still waiting on a mathematical explanation from the wizard himself.

Somehow he must have activated the "Leave the thread" button.

I'm waiting on one from you too, which describes how 90% of a tax cut is > 100% of an identically sized portion of spending.

Yes, because that is EXACTLY what I was saying...

I pointed out the flaw in your argument, so to save face, you switch the subject. Oh how precious thy BBS reputation is.

Sammy Sammy, pretty much everyone can see you have already lost this argument with your brilliant "x + 1 > x" formula. I am not going to waste anymore time until you can explain yourself.

OK - my argument is that urban areas with more people and more projects (which, happens to be a large part of the country are going to be better candidates to, and are more likely to receive stimulus money - as appropriated by congress- as there are more programs/projects ready tor receive this money, and because the sending of money to these areas would offer a greater economic benefit.

Why are you surprised by this?

You started the thread - you need to explain what your expectation was.
