Of course they did, but how many of the big time schools actively recruited them as QBs back in the 60's? Even today, black QBs from black colleges (Alcorn, TSU, etc) as well as most QBs from small colleges (division II/III) don't get a fair shot at the NFL. As you posted, blacks were being excluded from the QB position until guys like Gilliam, Williams and Moon showed they were as effective as white QBs. I simply offered an explanation as to why it was occuring as late as the 80s.
The danger of the black quarterback argument is the reverse of it. What happens when the NFL has a majority of it's quarterbacks being black? Do we then complain about a bias against Whites, or Asian, or Eskimo quarterbacks? Basing any comparison on skin color is INNANE !! DD
When we reach that point we can worry about it then. Your argument is silly, just because you fix one problem doesn't mean you start another.
DD Honestly You and I are closer on the issue that Me and Jorje TIME that is the MAJOR issue It took time for blacks to get equality in basketball to be judge on their ability . . .it took time for them to be GIVEN A CHANCE Same with Black QBs Those have reached a point where now. . . all that counts is physical ability, talent and mental game. This WILL BE true. . . but meanwhile black folx CONTINUE to suffer While you and jorje can afford for mediocrity to come about .. EVENTUALLY I'm not so patient. . . I WANT IT NOW DAMMIT . . . I'm looking for ways to decrease the lag time By time we get to you point of a Meritocracy . . . how many lives PRODUCTIVE lives would have been ****can . . . To me. . . . minorities pay the price and the majority gets the benefits. . . .in time minorities will get a shot. . .they will excell . .. . I think it will happen but that could be another 50 ~ 100 yrs also If we stop fighting for that equality . . it will never happen Everyone is protecting their pockets White folx got an advantage. . . makes no economic sense to give it up Black folx are at a disadvantage. . . makes no sense to stay at status quo Removing the Advantage is the MORALLY right thing to do however . .. dollars talk louder than morality these days SIDE NOTE: Jorge YOU DO NOT CONTROL THE UNIVERSE. The way I type and go about my argument are my own. You cannot and should not control that. Trying to belittle it or attack the form of my message is petty and weak. It is a form of Literary Discrimination. Someone does not talk/type like you . . .you don't like it .. so you attack it .. .in a way to make them do it your way .. . not unlike trying to make minorities ACT like the majority . . no more Cinco De Mayo . . no Juneteenth . . . nothing from their culture.. . they should mimic AMERICAN culture. . . .well . .that ain't going to happen either. I say this so you recognize that your tyrannical trying to imposeyourviewsonothers metality is so ingrained that it comes about in most things u do. U need to work on it. Tolerance. . it *is* a beautiful thing Rocket River
My argument and DaDakota's arguments stand unchallenged. Calling an argument "silly" is by no means a successful response or a counter-argument. Can someone please explain why Eskimo quarterbacks are not given a shot at playing? Surely this is racism if they are not represented in the NFL. Eskimo folx can't be held down forever. ...eagerly anticipating RocketRiver's Haiku-formatted response
You're the only person who would argue that black quarterbacks weren't given a fair shot up until recently. Case in point Warren Moon, the guy had to go to the CFL after winning the Rose Bowl. When there is an Eskimo quarterback who is successful in college and doesn't get drafted we will have that argument? Until then, your argument is stupid. CASE CLOSED
That's not an entirely fair argument. Moon chose to go to the CFL before the NFL draft occurred. Keep in mind that I am in agreement with you that blacks did not get a fair shot in the NFL until the early 80s. Perhaps Moon would not have been drafted very high, but we'll never know.
becuase Eskimos don't play alot of football in the snow However . . .. they *do* have quite the opportunity to play and to be honest. . . . their is probably some racism involved Eskimo says COACH I wanna play QB Coach says. . .I got my fair hair boy or this fast black kid I'm running . . . who ever heard of a eskimo QB. . . just go over and put on the Bulldog head If the coach in you area has a bias. . . . his team reflects it Hell . . .I know guys that were fast and nimble but the coach said. . he big . . he a lineman. .. He was stuck on the line. . even though he could have been a great running back [i.e. THE BUS] So the answer is YES IT IS PROBABLY RACIST to some degree. take the number of eskimos playing football now subtract the ones not playing QB subtract Take the number of eskimos with 'NFL' bodies subtract the numbers of eskimos that lack the skillset subtract the number of eskimos in division I or II schools subtract the number of eskimos that are not starting or playing take that number. . .. divide it by the amount of individuals trying to be QBs in the NFL tell me what that percentage is. . . It will be less than it is for whites or blacks. so my question is . . HOw do we get more Eskimos into the NFL I say. Eskimos need more NFL Camps. They need better nutrition They need for coaches to actually give them a shot. They need more opportunities Jorge how much are u willing to contribute to the E2NFL [Eskimos to the NFL] foundation? Rocket River . . . . I never called you argument silly. just to an extent flawed.
all the teams were saying they were going to try him at Wide receiver . . . . if he wanted to be a QB . . .he had little choice but to go to the CFL Rocket River
I think this is incorrect, or at least, that's not the way the story goes. Accounts I have read state that he was undrafted, then he went to the CFL: from HoustonProfootball.com EDIT I was wrong, as is the conventional story, you were right:
I said Haiku format, Rocket River. If you don't follow instructions, I'm not going to respond to you. Now put it in Haiku like I asked you to.
Thanks for posting that article Icehouse. It's nice to see that some people are actually working on solving problems that have a tremendous effect on our society. Robbie and TJ your opinions are both ignorant and utterly revolting. I've completely debunked your horrible points in the past but it's nice to see you've not given up on regurgitating that same tired crap. Very nice...
River, I see your point. However, I don't think it can be forced, I think it is just going to take time to make it work. But, I do see your point. DD
and I beleive that if it is not forced somewhat. . then it will lag on and on. Rocket River "Power concedes nothing without demand" - Malcolm x
