How many of you that didnt want to trade for Rahim want to change your minds now. Right now it stands like this. Best: Draft, Webber, Draft, Mobley, Francis. Probably: Cato, Taylor, Draft, Mobley, Francis. Worst: Draft, Draft, Draft, Mobley, Francis. or... Draft, Taylor, Rahim, Mobley, Francis. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
I don't think there is any way the Rockets will come out of this offseason w/out either Webber or re-signing Mo...that is as long as Mo does not want the max. ------------------
the best would be: olajuwon/webber/anderson/mobley/francis ------------------ http://www.democrats.com mgh 1925-2001
No one knows exactly what is going to happen! Not even Webber. He may want to go to NY, but he needs help from Sacramento in order for that to take place. Sacramento has done everything possible in trying to convince Webber to stay there and sign a new deal. Who is to say that they won't take a stance in not helping Webber get to NY. All they would have to do is refuse any type of sign-and-trade deal involving Webber and then Webber is screwed in his attempt to play alongside Sprewell in NY. But would Webber's reluctance to stay in Sacramento really have that sort of impact of the front office of the Kings? Would they screw C-Webb if they can't have him? ------------------
The trade for Rahim involved Reeves also which I still would not want. The main reason Mo Taylor would consider leaving is b/c the Rockets have no rebounding in the middle. Suppose that the Rockets instead get a rough and rugged rebounder like Antonio Davis in the mix which could be a reasonable possibility. That leaves this team with the following in the SL: Davis, Taylor, ?, Mobley, Francis If Shandon indeed is going to walk this offseason, then I feel the Rockets are hoping to groom Dan Langhi into the starting 3 man along with drafting a good fit ie. Battier or Morris with one of their picks. That leaves them with a solid starting 5 that works well together and a deep bench. Lets say the Rockets had traded for Rahim: Cato or Reeves, Taylor, Rahim, Mobley, Francis That is a good team on paper but would not be able to deliver on the court. They could easily score a lot of points but would be weak in the areas of defense and rebounding which is what is needed to advance deep in the playoffs. When trying to put a team together, you cant just say, well they have these certain players so they will dominate; you have to put the whole package together and see if everything fits. In a lineup with Francis, Mobley, Taylor, Davis and a role player at SF, you know that Francis and Mobley are the main 2 options and Taylor is the third option. You know that Davis and your role player at the 3 spot are there for the intangibles, rebounding, work ethic, etc. Everyone has their roles clearly defined and that leads to very good team chemistry which is what ends up bringing championships. ------------------ Check out the Best Source for Draft Info Draftsource.net
I won't belive it until I see Webber in a Knicks uniform. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
J-Bone, I agree. It makes little sense to me. New York would have to deplete its roster, New York is old, New York in two years would consist of: C-Webb + Old-Farts-who-no-one-will-trade-for. And my brother-in-law wondered the same thing when he heard the news: How? Why? Of course, in all this, the one thing that I still wonder: when this player heard the news, did he hear second-hand? Did he hear from a Sac player? Did that player hear from Webber, "I love you guys, but I can't stay here, but don't worry, I told them to trade me to New York." And maybe this was meant to placate his teammates who will fear the team getting weak in the off-season. C-Webb can let his current teammates believe he's gonna make sure they're taken care of. If this is the case, I wonder if Chris would stick it to them in case he really wants to come to Houston. All idle speculation, but very possible. ------------------
Still from a biased point-of-view, Houston seems the best place overall..i.e. youth, talent, coaches, available money, big city, team on the climb, etc. to realize his professional goals. It may be true of him going to NY, but it seems to make better sense of Houston! ------------------ It's my way or the highway!
I am pretty sure that Yao doesn't have to "declare" for anything. We can lock up his rights by drafting him whether he says he's coming over next season or not. Whether it's a wasted pick or not, in the event he stays in China for two more years, is another issue.
I can see Webber going to NY with the Kings trading Camby. NY has operated without a center technically for the last 2 or 3 years considering Ewing's state. I can see Kurt Thomas, Luc Longley, Travis Knight and even Othella filling in that center position by committee. If I were the Rocks, I would go after Antonio Davis or Marc Jackson, and go after Ruben Patterson. And obviously use the draft picks to add depth, maybe an extra big man. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
Kagy-Yao does have to declare because he's under 22. He can declare even if he's not going to be able to arrive this year, but foreign players who don't turn 22 in the calendar year have to declare to be eligible. I think he's 21 right now, so next year, he'd be eligible for the draft without declaring. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
If taking SAR means taking Reeves, no way would I do that. I'd rather have a draft pick at the SF spot and keep the cap space to take an awesome player that wants off a horrible team. Every year someone with serious talent wants off his team, and I could see that person definitely wanting to get sent to Houston. With cap space, we could easily work a deal out to get him too. Something tells me Jamison might be one of those players next year. It seems like the losing is getting to him and if the warriors continue to suck next year, I wouldn't be surprised to see him demand a trade. He did say he wanted to spend his career with GS, but doesn't everyone say that in the beginning of their career? Antawn Jamison is tired of the Warriors' losing ways. On April 6, after the embattled Trail Blazers handed the Warriors a 31-point home loss, Jamison vented. "I can't be associated with all this losing anymore," Jamison said in the Contra Costa Times. "I won't be associated with it. I can't do this again." Entering play against the Trail Blazers in Portland on Tuesday, the Warriors have lost 26 of their past 28 games. But Jamison, whom the Warriors coveted more than Vince Carter in the 1998 draft, said he "started my career here and I want to end my career here." That sounds as though Jamison, who has scored 51 points in a game twice this season, faces a Catch-22.
Gawd, I'd love Jamison on this team. Getting him, though? (I can't say "you're dreaming" because further up in this thread I mentioned Elton Brand.) It would probably take a 3-way trade like I've mentioned before; Van Horn would love to go to California, I'm sure. I don't want to help Western Conference teams, though. ------------------
I'm not saying we're going to get Jamison. I was just using his recent quotes as an example of disgruntled superstars wanting off of their horrible teams with a long history of being bad.
Yeah. And there are a few disgruntled stars out there. Sometimes I wonder if the Rox have any real interest in them (and wonder, even if it can't happen, how they might fit the team): Shareef. Van Horn. Brand. Jamison. Lafrentz. ------------------
I hope the Rockets don't get Jamison because then I would have nothing to watch when I go to Warrior games ------------------ ``We need to FOCASS".... Akeem Olajuwon
