Hit it right on the head my friend.

I also agree with Moe's simple analysis of the GARM.

Trying to prove a point in the GARM is simply not worth the effort anymore. It's really too bad because that sub-forum was my main attraction to this site in the first place and the thing that really set us apart from other sports message boards.

So what is the solution to bringing back these glory days? Will we never see civilized articulate discussion about our dear Rockets again?

The GARM died when Yao Ming got drafted.

The GARM and Clutchfans in general got exponentially more popular when Yao was drafted.

You are correct though, the quality of posts in the GARM went straight to hell at that moment.

That was probably the single most defining moment in the history of the GARM. Everything from that point forward has been in gradual decline.

It was yesterday's Francis4Life!!1 to the 1000th power.

Maybe Clutch can come up with a secret room for the old schoolers and people with valuable insight to talk Rox. I mean, I don't know about yous guys, but I still like debating Rockets ball. Just a thought.

I'm just biding my time until the new arena forum comes back.

Also, now that I've become a member of a super-secret private message board, I just come here to look down my nose at all of you "public" message board people.

    heh

I consider that a compliment, even if you didn't intend it that way.

At least Mango knows how to act like an Op, unlike certain other people who actually have +o at this time. :p

and as for the topic.....Contrary to what I claim, I do actually read at least the first page in each thread..you can normally tell if it will be worth it from that point.
It isnt worth the time to make a post when nobody in most GARM threads seems to care about actually discussing the topic....what else can I post in those instances?

I stick to videos, answering questions in Feedback, and sarcastic pics and/or one liners.

Going back to my point of a secret room. You should have been a member since before....oh....I don't know.....lets just say 2001. You could even give a one month grace period if they got in in Jan of '01. :p

If there was a chatroom swear jar, Clutch would be able to host this site thanks to me.

I mainly go to the GARM to get the news... and post links for other people.

I also have a tendency to want to argue with the teenagers. Or just GATER and his hate for all this statistical.

I occasionally post here in the hangout, but I check NBA dish and College basketball first.

    :)

The board (particularly the GARM) needs more mods.

Clutch and his Crew have to be pretty overworked/outnumbered.

Honestly, I think this is a misconception. The number of mods can't help the quality of the threads. :D

Also, when a thread starts out as "Topic A", but then devolves into the same crap that's in all the other threads, there's not much mods are going to be able to do other than let it die a slow death or just close it.

I used to read every thread or at least skim through them in GARM and to be honest, it's not that difficult. But the past 2-3 years it's just like a masochistic endeavor to put yourself through that. The worst thing I see is that it doesn't seem to matter what topic you start, you'll have the same 5-10 people going from thread to thread promoting their idiotic points everyone's already read 1000 times that day like we needed to read it another time. A topic about defensive or offensive strategy eventually becomes "TMAC NEESZ TO GOOO!!!1" It's like every thread eventually gets threadjacked. I have to admit it's sometimes fun to watch the board as a group move from attacking one Rockets player to attacking another Rockets player day to day. One day, this guy's the answer, the next day he's being ripped a new one, the next week he's everybody's favorite player and has an "appreciation thread". It's like a bunch of psychotic posters with pitchforks running around in circles. lol.

I pretty much talk Rockets with friends up here and watch the games, but rarely post about them. It wouldn't matter - all the views have been expressed and arguments have been made, and in the end it all boils down to one thing : "TMac needs to go". Well, at least for this season. Who knows what next season's reason for hating will be. :D

BTW, durvasa, I seriously love reading some of your posts - except the ones where you're obviously wrong like that Vince Carter dunk thread... *ahem*. You would've loved it here a few years ago. People debated stats, offensive/defensive strategy, etc. We still had fights and goofy threads, but the population explosion caused the laws of probability to dilute quality discussion.

    cabbage,

I think the ratio of good posters to bad posters shrinks as you add more and more people. Those good posters find it harder to stand out when you have 1000 people than when you had 100. This happens on lots of boards, and I don't know if there's a lot you can do about it.
