I couldn't disagree more. I'd say the only downfall would be the GARM itself being nothing but nonsense, which it is kinda close to already. Any valid or good thread in the GARM would be moved to the new forum.

The only thing I worry about with REP points is that if someone makes 1 post per day that is always good and someone posts 50 times a day and maybe 2 are good, can you technically vote on them twice maybe even in the same thread?

Also, will rep'ing be turned on in non-basketball forums (NBA, D&D, BBS, etc)? I wouldn't think it needs to be.

Oh yeah, and give Crew members/moderators/admins the ability to give negative rep... muhaha. :D

i think we are experiencing a period of punctuated equilibrium. we should probably let the GARMutuations unfold under darwinian mechanics, what?

What is the ultimate goal? To improve quality posts in the GARM? To identify quality posters? To bring out more quality posters?

I don't think there is a quick, easy, overnight fix. Keeping the forums clean (avatars, graphics in sig., ect...) and the freedom makes this site popular. I don't think rep points will get me any more active in the GARM.

the ultimate goal I think is to encourage better postings and weed out those that make crap posts all the time.

the negative rep points in theory would accumulate until the member reaches a set number of negatives and then they are restricted from being able to create threads/make posts or banned depending on how far negative they are.

The positives help point out those who repeatedly make good posts, as they are rated more and more favorably the amount of greenies(positive reps) they have will increase.

this way....members can be promoted or demoted based on the kind and amount of reps they have....once the system is fully in place, you set it to do this automatically....cutting down on the amount of work Clutch has to do to weed out the chaffe from the wheat.

I think for right now I'm going to let users only post positive feedback ... what do you guys think? I've been reading up on this and I think it can create some problems, atleast initially. I do want negative feedback ability later, but the initial purpose is to reward positive posts and users.

Negative feedback can be bad for the same reason the star rating system gets misused. If people hate you or the thread, they'll just slam negative ratings on you no matter what you post. Positive only seems fine.

I think that this is going to be an interesting feature, but I have a feeling that it's going to be easily abused, especially by newer members.

Agreed.....and it allows people to still be critical of certain...uh...very popular players.

And how does it work, I want to immediatly give ScriboErgoSum a + rating for his work in the magic numbers thread.

Also, is this a contributing members only feature? Where only we can rate people etc? I think that would be a good way of doing it as well.

Strangely, right now, all I can do is rate myself.

    :D

When I first started posting on Clutchfans things were much different.

The Yao and Tracy "player" fan base has annoyed me more than anything...

We have player fans now days, not Rocket fans. All the veteran
guys have to try and set an example for the rookies. From now on I am
going to really try and contribute to make this the best forum on the web.

I don't think the feedback buttons are showing up on the "Clutchfans Dark" BBS skin. It seems to work on the old/original version, however.
