not so much what its 'actually' worth but moreso what other bidders are willing to offer. An NBA team is unlike anything else and perhaps the most accurate route is comparative valuation as brant24 said, definately not going close to the bucks and so many different factors to consider.

Forbes doesn't even have them ranked in the top 10, the Rockets are very highly valued I guess for being "china's" team obviously due to Yao.

Yes, I understand that, ultimately, the value is the highest bid. And “overbids” are likely, given the non-monetary perks.

The financial fundamentals, however, puts a floor on the bid price. For example, if the Clippers profit is $70 million this year, and steadily growing at 2% a year above the GNP rate growth (perhaps due to the industry as disproportionate beneficiary from globalization, for example), then a guy like Torocan can plug it into some formula and give us an estimate.

But I do think a wild card is some of these ruling class families are playing with central bank money, which means they can put in insane bids, if they wished (I am a conspiracy theorist in that way).

If I were a racist old man, who just got fired and had to sell his NBA franchise exclusively to someone who wants to move the franchise..

Hello Seattle, Hello Louisville, Hello Las Vegas.

If the Clippers were still horrible, this would be the prime time to do it.

However, since they seem to be actually building a fanbase, they might not leave.

Mayweather is interested to buy. The first thing that he would do is move the team to East Conference. :)

Mayweather has made racist comments in the past, not to mention has had trouble with the law. He won't be allowed to buy the team.

The Seattle group won't be outbid. Between Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer, they have plenty of cash...and approval for a nice new arena.

An interesting note...Steve Ballmer was at the Clippers - Warriors game last night. Coincidence? Maybe.
