actually not. there are very valid reasons for doing this, and if it were reasonably affordable and i was sure of longterm reliability, i'd do it in a heartbeat for one of my kids who remains an (unintentional) flight risk.
Pfft, because this doesn't happen anyways. I can see the positives and the negatives to having one put in a child. There is nothing like that panic when your kid disappears for seconds or minutes.
I can see an unintended consequence to this. A technically savy pedophile uses the GPS to track chipped kids and when they are vulnerable. Anyway I think this is a bad idea for reasons stated. I can't help but think of the South Park where the parents keep on overreacting to fears about sexual molestors.
Right. You can indoctrinate just about ANYTHING into babies and kids. It can be so commonplace for them that if they DIDN'T have the chip, they'd feel "vulnerable" and empty. We can teach the next generation to all be bisexual if we REALLY wanted to. But the question is should we, just cuz we can? I can see how chipping CAN work really, its not all bad. But people would have to get rid of their biases and ignorance and fears. Chipping might just exacerbate them more than being a calming influence. Or you have be SO selfless and transparent to everyone else that you just become lifeless. Parents will always be worried about kids getting into harms way such as them swallowing stuff, etc. Which is why its not about the kids so much, but stopping adults. And naturally the chipped kids will grown up to be adults with the same chip in them ANYWAY. I doubt they'd get "deactivated" after they turn 18. Woman are usually aligned with children as needing protection also. Crimes happen to adults too. Shouldnt we chip women who might get abducted so we can track them down better in case of a rape+homicide? Also, children get abused and MOLESTED by their OWN family. Who is there to protect kids THEN? So we have to chip all parents, too. The most optimal way to have maximum security from danger is to do absolutely NOTHING. No movement at all. Neutering and castrations for all cuz "you can never be TOO sure". Making eunuchs of everyone. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. But what about having pounds upon pounds of prevention?
I was actually thinking about that when I was making my post. I'm thinking if I was kidnapped and dealing with that situation that I would want something or someone to know how to find me. If not to save me, but to at least be able to find and have some sort of peace about it. I always carry my phone on me with the thought that if something should happen I could hide it on my person for tracking, but how often would that happen, you think? As a parent I'm not sure I'd prefer waiting three or eleven years to have a cop randomly tell me that they found my child's remains finally. Is that hope you're holding onto? Is it worth it to be crushed all over again? I'm not so sure. But I can see the issue with the government interfering and pedo's hacking into it. If there was some way to capably keep others from accessing it without a real reason, then I could see how the benefits far outweigh the cons. As for children being abused by their family and no one to help them, the chip isn't going to help with that. Chipping the parents isn't going to prevent that. But if my child and I are at a store or even in our front yard and I look away for a moment and he's snatched away or climbs into a van that's not ours. Or gets lost...the chip could help to locate them. Maybe I should have one installed into my husband. Then at least when he doesn't call I'd be able to see that he's not lying somewhere on the side of the road dead in a car accident.
I think it would be a great idea. There are a bunch of F'd up people in this world and its better safe then sorry. The kids that has the gps installed can have the option of taking it out when they become 17-18.
