didnt anyone see idiocracy? how much longer till we are there - i never thought i would see body scanners in this country, but we have them now (thanks obama!). i guess microchipping everyone is the next stop on the road to freedom!

i wont even chip my dog - i would never put that crap in my kid.

and allowing something like this opens the door for it to be forced on everyone.

In 20 years all our ID's, credit cards, and health records will be on RF devices in our fingers. Why not ad a locating device to the mix while we're at it?

I agree it'd help. Kids are parental "property" so itd be like putting a burglar alarm on their car. Its the fact it won't stop at just chipping kids. I don't see it working with partial implentation. It has to be an everybody or nobody thing. Cuz its not about finding the kid, its preventing the incident from happening altogether. The bigger deterrent is the kidnapper to know HE/SHE is being tracked, not just the kid.

Basically itd be like the entire country on the police ankle bracelet, except chipped. I dont like procedures where 99% of people have to get suffocated in restrictive surveillance to catch the 1% of people doing things. People already dont like traffic light cameras and over-ticketing police. The question is will the overwhelming majority who DONT do crimes, will they want to put themselves and the entire population on probation type monitoring to take out the few who do commit crimes?

I have a feeling there will be cuz "Protect women and children" means "Take out those no good men". There will be test runs of it at some point. Too much political gain, too much money for someone to make.

Should people start wearing armor and bulletproof clothes, too?

Can we legalize weed and prostitution already?? Legalize bigamy? In order to undergo all the chipping, they BETTER open up some liberties as a compromise. Yeah chip me, but turn the other way when I'm visiting the local brothel.

As a parent of two children I can understand why some people would want to do this. My kids have become my life and I do not know what I would do if anything happened to one of them however I would not do this personally. I say a prayer to the Lord to protect my children every time they leave the house. I put my children's safety in the hands of the Lord anytime they are away from me and I also teach them how to avoid situations where they may put themselves in danger. My oldest is 16 and it has worked so far. I also pray my children do not do half of the crazy things I did when I was young because when I look back there are some things I did that I can honestly say that I am lucky to be alive. Then I think and realize that the only reason that I am alive is because my mother was praying for me like I do for my children now..

bad things can and do happen in this world - but the idea that we can have this totally "safe" and managed society is really scary - it is total control. we are basically talking about totalitarianism, but in the name of this idealized version of "safety". this is the exact same logic the soviets used to control their people - sad to see our own country going the same direction (again, body scanners???).

Don't the "prophecy teachers" of some religions believe the microchip to be "the mark of the beast"

The small positives (finding lost children and etc.) do not outweigh the massive potential for abuse->GPS is managed by the USAF, and while I do like to trust the gouvernment occasionally, I wouldn't open myself or anyone else for that matter to the level of potential scrutiny.

Remember, these are the same guys who aim smart bombs for a living.

Also, random fact, GPS is notoriously easy to hack.

How long before it becomes MANDATORY?

excuse me. . .you won't have to have it. . .but you will have to have it to drive a car, rent an apt, etc

I suspect the future will be about incorporating more info into the chip.
Maybe can work like those credit things at the gas stations
Then add in the information about criminal record
    Immigration status
    etc

Your life on a chip in your shoulder blade.

    yea. . it is decades off . . but seriously. . .

Everything that is a violation . . . .was brought in with good reason.

yes this would help but the potential for abuse is far far too great.

And once those parents become doddering seniors, the kids should return the favor.

Have some private company or the government know where I go for vacation OR getting my ass kidnapped and never found again.......

I think I'll take the former.

My thing about the Orwellian surveillance society is if its to be done then EVERYBODY has to have it, INCLUDING the powers that manage it. Total transparency for everyone everywhere. No selective placement on commoners being tracked, but the heads of state are excluded. Like that WON'T lead to exploitation.

How do you trust that the chip, the "foreign body" (thanks, Mel Gibson) is doing ONLY its intended purpose? Are there gonna be mass firmware updates to install the latest features? IF these ideas ONLY stayed within its intended purpose and nothing else, yeah sure consider it. But when does that ever happen? And the GPS chip probably will be none of purposes, it'll just be another way to stream p*rn.

So you'll have a society thats risk averse, shouldnt drive cars that kill the planet, they can do nothing but stay at home minding their carbon footprints. They've stopped having children cuz thats a "selfish decision". But then their office chair is killing them. So they'll work at home or away in a "moving chair". They'll have nothing to do but to watch TV or get on internet. Maybe play some board games. Or pray all day. But then TV is bad, it corrupts and all people do is watch crappy TV that doesnt educate. Also mainstream music is bad, you should be checking out the "true" musical artists. Watching and participating in sports leads to a "military complex". So you should be doing something else, outside perhaps. But then outside is all the accidents and kidnappers and rapers and killers. And of course you cant drive anywhere. You already can't drink, eat crappy food, smoke anything. You cant "forniciate".

What the HELL are you SUPPOSED to do?

I adore science, but this is what happens when you work strictly off framework and building blocks and case studies. That how it is when you try to eliminate all human error and blame human's innate faulty judgment on everything. All this is aggregated stuff from just off of THIS BOARD. And its even worse away from here. All we should do is work on the rocket ships that can take us into other galaxies, cuz basically all things Earth is "shot to s**t", abandon it.

In the future, gonna have to split the world up into the techno experimental world and the "traditional" world. Let the gadget minded do their Singularities and all of that stuff, leave the people alone who want to opt out of all that. Let the Android Elite govern themselves and regular people do the same. All the while the apes and dogs and cats (that we're to protect with our own lives) are doing what the hell THEY want. And we're animals, too!.

Ergh, tired of all the whining. Its not so much the single solutions, its the ENTIRE BODY of them. The train of thought that wants kids protected wants you to be organic and save the earth, but then rely on technology all at the same time. Who's deciding all this stuff? Move me to a remote tropical island already...

You GPS enthusiasts will have second thoughts about this program when you hear about the first kid who accidentally walks into a lake.

I guess it's better than my idea. I wish I had heard about this sooner.

this wont happen for a while, but unless you teach your children to resist chipping, they will grow up thinking it's normal and accept it. Always how it goes, folks.
