With all due respect...how long do I have to live there to get the story...is one year between Cullen Blvd. and Scott St. (and going back and forth to the States all the time) enough to get an idea?

The jury dropped the ball. The evidence was overwhelming. He got lucky. He should be in jail.

That being said, if there is a double murderer walking the streets that will not kill again, its OJ so in that sense, I could care less.

Have you ever walked down a city street at night, past a group of young black men wearing baggy clothes and sporting cornroles and felt uncomfortable? How many interracial relationships have you been in? Anyone in your family have a bi-racial child? How many besides that one that no one talks about? Racism is just as alive and well in America as it was 50 years ago, white people have just learned to keep it to themselves. To deny that is an insult.

I have to say that this "You don't live here, so you can't get the story" (and implied "so shut up") argument pisses me off.

I think it has to do with the fact that some people do not want an objective perspective. As long as they can label people and whatever they say "Yes, he says this because he is one of them", it makes it easier for them because they always have something to retreat to.

I didn't make an implication, I flat-out asked you. Nothing cowardice about that. If race has nothing to do with it on your side, then I commend you. You said "it made you feel uncomfortable that you were happy." Read into that what you can. According to media coverage, it looked like whites were unhappy and blacks were happy about the verdict. That bothers me alot.

I could give a **** what race OJ is. He's a) a wife beater (disgraceful) and b) a likely murderer.

Funny you should bring that up. I was riding the subway the other day with my buddy after the Knick Celtic game and I said something similar to him. I used to look over my shoulder when someone got on the subway that looked like a gang member, hoodlum (black, white or hispanic) and I never thought of it as racism...I just thought of it as being alert. Nowadays, I dont even look twice at those people, however, if an Arab-looking guy, whether he is wearing a suit or old grungy clothes, gets on the subway or train, I get a little nervous.

One thing, I was also generalizing. I have also spoken to some black Americans who thought it was ridiculous that this guy was set free. He is a brutal murderer and should be in jail.

Can't believe he made me laugh that much in Naked Gun.

But how many people walk down a city street at night and see a group of young white men dressed in those types of clothes and feel uncomfortable? I would suspect it is a similar number.

FWIW, I'm not white, I'm Asian-American. I've been in plenty of interracial relationships, but none with a black girl. That doesn't mean I'm racist though. And, if I find the right one, I would most certainly date one. I'm not gonna play the "I got black friends card." Very cliche. I don't judge people by their race though, I'll say that much. Oh, I'm also very anti-affirmative action. Hope that doesn't make me a bigot.

Did you ever watch the Chris Rock show? He was talking about blacks being upset over people feeling more apprehensive with blacks behind them at an ATM then if a white guy was behind him.

I think Rock said "Well of course. If I'm going to be robbed, I'm gonna be afraid of a brother, not dan Rather!!!!!" something like that.

Man you're really full of yourself, aren't you. Riiiiiight, since your superior rationale has silenced everybody else on the board, somebody has resorted to claiming that you're siding with OJ b/c you're black. Seems you're the one taking the easy way out, not gr-1.

Then you are in a very unique position. You get to see things from both sides while never really seing it from one. Perhaps when everyone is bi-racial we won't have any race problems. Untill then there will always be things out there that are very real, very wrong and very unsaid.

I haven't seen that much of Chris Rock, but I think he was quite funny in "Bad Company".

The problem with this entire debate is that if you don't see the argument from a certain point of view you're labelled a racist....or a liar...take your pick. Actually, the assertion was that you're inherently a racist, so if you deny it you're a liar. You're a racist no matter what...but if you seek to deny that you're both a racist and a liar.

see where this gets us??? absolutely nowhere.

does anyone here think there has been no progress in terms of race relations in the United States over the last 50 years? are we not at all encouraged by a more integrated society??

You need to watch his show. He's hilarious. One time, he said something like, no white man would ever trade places with a black man, not even me. And I'm rich. Somewhere in the back, there's a white one-legged bussboy, and if he were given a chance to trade places with me, he would say "nah. I think I'll ride this white thing out for awhile."

If this dating turned to marriage, would anyone in your family be displeased? Would your mother prefer you to marry a "nice asian girl"? You've never met a black girl you would date? If not, why do you think that is? If you have and didn't date her, why?
