http://chron.com/disp/story.mpl//4391354.html By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle WASHINGTON — With that familiar pain shooting through his back, Tracy McGrady knew just what had gone wrong. He had felt that pain too often before to wonder. So he stood in the spot where he landed, bending over slowly with the back spasms that had stolen so much of last season from him seizing him again. "Spasms. Back spasms," McGrady said. "I lost my footing a little bit and it shot spasms through my back immediately." McGrady missed 35 games last season with back spasms. The recurring injury knocked him out beginning with the regular-season's first practice, and a back injury that ended his season March 8. While he has not missed a game this season, and had no reoccurrence of the back pain since last spring, the potential of more back problems had hung over the Rockets' hopes for this season. Then, with roughly seven minutes left in Saturday's 114-109 win at the Washington Wizards, McGrady landed on Gilbert Arenas' foot, immediately reached for his lower back and had to be helped off the court. He was hunched over and moving carefully, but he said that the pain was not as severe as last season. "I think it's a little different," McGrady said. "The pain level is definitely different. Before it was to the point I really couldn't tolerate the pain. I feel pretty good walking around right now. I just can't extend my body all the way up because of the spasms in my back. But I'm going to get on the treatment tonight, tomorrow and Monday and see how I feel. "Last year, it was really painful. It was hard to either sit down or stand up and walk around. This is definitely different from what I went through last year. I'm real confident I'll be back on the court Tuesday." Given the unpredictable nature of spasms, the Rockets could not estimate that McGrady would be ready to play Tuesday against the visiting Lakers or be out much longer. But his teammates spoke of the possibility of another stretch without him. "Obviously, it's not good," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "But I don't want anything to detract from what the guys did tonight, and Tracy. He played on the fourth game in five nights an energetic, really good game. We'll see where he is in the coming days. "We're happy with the win, but you know. We'll see."
Its OK Traci McGRadie hurt his back! we will trade with Alan Iversen. I think Bonzi Wills will Have a BIg Day! I digrest, Alan Iversen will be on the Houston ROckets...I think we will traed 2 top draft seleccions and the traed exeption and Jowan Howard!!
Man, I really feel for the guy, back pain is the worst chronic injury a professional athlete can have, and yet the guy is still a tremendous player. Can't say I didn't expect it to happen at one point or another this season (probably will happen again), but I don't know how an athlete who has to do what T-Mac does every night can deal with a chronic back injury like that when most average Joes can barely function with chronic back pain, and they definitely don't have to do the type of jumping/running/grueling physical activities he does. Oh well, we'll just have to deal with this for the next 3 1/2 seasons, we have to manage it somehow.
Awesome! I'm always looking for examples for grammar correction for my 11 year-old son. This is a Clutch Classic moment. Wills- swish!
I'm not sure why you can't make an attempt to respect everyone by using proper grammar. By having a complete disregard for the English language, you are only making yourself out to be an invalid. I am, by no means, claiming to be an English Major. I do the best I can. I see no reason for this. It's distracting. Get over yourself.
Don't worry. I also have 3-4 gods on this myself. The Christians need to step it up a bit, they've only got one guy working on McGrady's back. He needs to put in some overtime just to keep up.
"McGrady said he expected to play Tuesday at home against the Los Angeles Lakers. " This is from the official AP recap...you can find it on yahoo. Don't worry guys, now we know why T-mac is warry of playing hard to the hole but it is ok..he will play. This will always be a problem but we always knew our championship hopes laid in TMAC's hands and the health of his back. God bless him and the Rockets...enjoy the win and clutch effort by Yao. -V
i know we been through this a lot last about tmac's weight lifting mechanics. but i still wonder if that has anything to do with his spasms.
He did not land on gilbert's foot. I repeat he did NOT land on his foot. Why would they say this. I played it back several times and it showed that was not the case. I am sure that this has been talked about but I could not see b/c the board was overloaded.
