I know this is suppose to be a happy thread, but after vowing by halftime to wear the Texans shirt to the market in Nashville after the game (knowing we had a real chance to win...),...I am again thinking, how is it that we keep shooting the foot with turnovers? Who should be responsible for that? That is what kills me...

The apostrophe key is located to the right of the semicolon key. You can easily reach it with your right pinky finger. Give it a try next time you need to post the word, "don't".

"At least" and "am not" are each two words, not one.

    At least be freaking decent.

I don't know. I think he is something of a pioneer in his attempt to create new contractions. It never occurred to me to combine "am" and "not" into "amnt."

Also, unless I missed it, Dunta has never gone to a Pro-bowl...although that is not to say that he didn't look like he would be going to start out the year. But he doesn't have that on his resume yet.

Bah. We've had "ain't" for centuries now, and it's even made the dictionary (finally).

The Texans are 7th in the league in sacks given up this year.

Talk about your crap luck. Give $24M to a guy, and he misses like 8 games.

    Pooh.

are you thinking this year will be an exception?

forget good/bad; does he strike you as being atheltic and/or strong? i would rate him low on both counts - he's slow-footed and in person, looks rather slight. that can be a lethal combination of attributes for a QB: can't avoid a rush; can't absorb a hit. someone several weeks ago, on a radio show i believe, compared him to cris chandler, and i thought... bingo! (though, unfortunately, he doesn't have near the arm of chandler.)

sage looks much the same, btw: a big, slow skinny target.

To be fair, he's not alone this year. Here's a list of starting QBs that have missed at least a game this year due to injury:

    McNabb
    Favre (possibly)
    Tavaris Jackson
    Rex Grossman & Brian Griese
    Jeff Garcia
Jake Delhomme & David Carr & Vinny Testaverde
    Joey Harrington & Byron Leftwich
    Matt Leinart & Kurt Warner
    Alex Smith
    Marc Bulger
    JP Losman
    Chad Pennington
    Trent Green
    Steve McNair
    David Garrard
    Vince Young
    Matt Schaub
    Josh McCown & Daunte Culpepper
    Damon Huard

That's 18 out of 32 starting QBs, plus several of their backups - and they aren't all mobile or not-mobile, big or small, etc. Schaub may be injury prone, and that would certainly suck, but I'm not sure we know that just yet.

That was one of my big concerns about Schaub: what would happen when he started getting hit on a regular basis because with the Texans OL, you knew that he'd have to take some hits. In his previous 4 years in the league, he hasn't had to face this kind of physical battering on a consistent basis and it looks like he can't take the abuse. And compared to years past, the 2007 OL has performed reasonably well. He certainly hasn't had to face the pounding his predecessor faced. I think the unvoiced fear amongst many here is that Schaub is somewhat fragile and it's entirely possible that this time next year, the Texans may well be looking at having to find another QB to take his place.

I have no opinion on this at all--how could I? He's been a starter for all of two thirds of one season. Not nearly enough sample from which to draw a resonsible projection.

All I'm sayin' is, "bummer, man."

Really? The Texans are 7th in the NFL in not getting sacked this year. The O-line hasn't changed in personnel dramatically from last year, so I'm guessing Schaub has quite a bit to do with it. I'm guessing you know far more about this than I, Ric--but isn't "avoiding a rush" about a lot more than speed? It seems to me, the admittedly less-than-knowledgeable casual observer, that Schaub's pocket intelligence compared to Carr's is like comparing Einstein to, well, a lemming.

Man, it sure is starting to look that way. I hope it's just a bad year, really.

But if he spends the majority of two seasons hurt and the Texans then have to cut him, the whole "2 second rounders" concern will have a lot of credence.

    Here's hoping he's not fragile.

it's a fair point - QBs are certainly more prone to big hits and, obviously, are not comparable, size or strength-wise to the men pursuing them. but of those 18, 13 of 'em are 30 or older; hell, testaverde is in his 40s and several more (favre, garcia, green, mcnair, warner) are 35+. i mean, does anyone feel better knowing schaub isn't any less brittle than trent green?

my concern is that unlike a leinart, who hurt his shoulder on a single play and was wiped out for the year, schaub has battled multiple injuries - concussions; a shoulder separation; earlier this year against the falcons, he hurt his knee that hampered him that afternoon and the following week against miami...

if he is indeed done for the year, he will miss 5 starts plus, off the top of my head, 8 other Qs, or two full games (a half against TEN; a Q against JAX; a half against SD; 3Qs against TEN).

that's seven full games he's been out injured. carr missed four games TOTAL in 5 years while running for his life behind a line just as bad, if not worse. that's not meant as anything other than a very fair and valid perspective.

maybe its bad luck; maybe QBs are more vulnerable than ever; maybe schaub's just having a tough-luck season....

well, i don't, and to a degree - you're right... but sacks don't account for how often a player is getting hit, nor does quantity matter if he's a lumbering statue that can't get out of the way of "quality" hits.

as stated, this wasn't a single injury; it's been a multitude of different injuries, suffered in a varierty of ways (a cheap shot; a scramble; sacks) - THAT'S the concern.

That's one good thing I can say about Carr, he was tough, he was in there almost every down.

Oh,foulest Celtic devil,my predilection as to jot down random thoughts off the top off my head on a holiday weekend where our brutish fate was sealed as oppposed to an english composition should not concern you.Perhaps within the content there might be something which one can run with. You seemed intrigued enough to post,so please refrain from calling the grammar police.Again,I was relaxing at my house and thought it appropriate at the time and in my state.Sit back and enjoy the show or just don't post and put me on ignore.I care not.

    But...as to the issue.

It seems our Texans were headed to the playoffs.Even so we shall have more depth and another frontline player after this year. So,like I said rejoice, this is a marathon, not a sprint. We seem to be in agreement on that.

    Happy Daze,
