6 weeks seems to be with no medicine, however, Chinese herbs creates miracles.
Yao and Chinese National Team possibly used herbs before.
The link I posted emphasizes an extremely quicker effect, which is crucial
    for current rockets team.
I don't understand the details of fracture, but really believes in tradiational Chinese medicine, although which depends on an experienced doctor.

Maybe you should do some reading and 'understand the details of the fracture' first before offering any more advice.

A greenstick fracture depends on the case. Every case is different with a greenstick fracture. I think the reason why a greenstick fracture seems like it is the "mildest" is because they almost always occur in children, thus, accelerated healing times...

To me, a fracture of the tibial plateau seems like it could either heal very quickly, or linger for a while. The tibial plateau isn't a very large area, and if the fracture didn't show up on an x-ray, then it had to have been very small. Because of that, I would say that it's likely that this injury won't linger. The only thing I'd be worried about is arthritis. Any time a joint is involved, arthritis is possible, which would suck.

I would trust the orthopedic surgeon's prediction, and guess about 8 weeks.

I'm an x-ray tech in training, hoping to one day become a radiologists' assistant. I look at x-rays all day at least 2 days a week...as a disclaimer.

    Good thing is this:

From my best knowledge, they had probably done an x-ray to rule out a break. When that showed nothing, they were wondering where the pain was coming from, so they performed an MRI to look for ligament or meniscii damage. That's when the tibial plateau fracture showed. MRIs are not usually done to look for fractures, but moreso for ligament and meniscii damage.

Actually, first reports had Keith Jones calling it a "bone bruise," which I think further supports this theory.

All of that put together, I would say is a good sign. With a little rest, Yao will be good as new in a little while.

    no need.
Such as on hoopchina.com, from time to time, there are threads
confirming the effectiveness and quickness of Chinese herbs on bone injuries,
based on the hoopers' experience themselves.
    Here's a recent one:

The above said 4 weeks to heal, r****ded since applying the herbs in the 2nd week.

I got a feeling that Yao Ming will be back on court within 6 weeks. Mark my words.

It is said that yao could be sidelined for as long as 2 months, and may miss the All Star Weekend.

You two can bet on this, and put your money where your mouth is. Here is the deal: if Yao could recover and start to play within 6 weeks, littlefish_220 pays YaoFan US$10, otherwise YaoFan pays littlefish_220 $10. And as middle man and ref, you guys pay me $5 :D

Yao is going to be out about 2 months + because of this -- 6 weeks seems very overly optimistic.

    I hope i'm wrong.

OK, enough bickering. We're all upset and stressed. It's time to pull together as Rockets fans and support (what's left of) our team as much as possible.

If we can trade for someone of size and athletic ability (because there's so many of them laying around) then that's good. Otherwise, we look on the bright side of things. This will give us the oportunity to play the newer guys and strengthen the others so that when T-Mac and Yao come back we will have a stronger supporting cast around them. I think we are MUCH better off this year than when this happened last year. It won't be easy, but at least we have some more veterens over last year's CBA team.

    GOOOOO ROCKETS!!!!!!

we are so f***ed, yao will be out for over a month
let's hope tmac will be back soon and JVG work Bonzi into form. We can beat average team as long as we have two reliable scorer.
