Someone else probably already pointed this out, but the timing of this injury is oddly familiar.

Last year, Yao played the Clippers on 12/17 and then had to sit out a month because of his toe. This year, it's about the same time, against the Clips, and again he'll be out for an extended period. Like last year, McGrady isn't close to 100% and will likely struggle trying to carry the team with Yao gone.

Will our new personnel ease the blow any compared to last year?

    1. He can't take pain pills and play basketball.
    2. There's a HUGE difference between you having spasms and going about your daily business and a professional athlete whose body must be in peak condition to play at a high level.

There's no conspiracy. The guy has a bad back.

March is 9 1/2 weeks(no Mickey Rourke jokes, please!) from now. It's not too far-fetched that the guy is out til then. Keith Jones sounded pretty down when he said "at least 6 weeks". His tone clearly implied dude would be out longer than that.

No disrespect but you are comparing Odom to Yao ? Plus they have Kobie who averages 30 +. If T-Mac was his old self I wouldn't be as worried but hes not...Odom to Yao...interesting...At least your optimistic and thats good for the Holidays cause I'm not... :D

I hope the Big Guy gets better..not for the season's sake but just for his own personal health. He's been carrying this team all season and maybe this is a blessing in disguise...gives him some time off. I just hope now that Yao's out, we can actually build some kind of bench depth when Yao and McGrady comes back.

Suddenly, tank all the way to get Oden doesn't sound a bad idea anymore.

Yao was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, where an MRI test revealed a fracture on Yao's right tibial plateau, trainer Keith Jones said.

The Rockets initially said Yao had only suffered a bone bruise. Now, Jones said he hopes the injury will not require surgery.

"It's a non-displaced fracture, so nothing is way out of the way or out of whack," Jones said. "We think he'll do well with just rest. An option would be to do something more, but we're hoping that won't need to be done."

Not necessarily, top 6 teams are very strong but 7 and 8 seeds are wide open. 41 to 43 wins may do it.

Thats my point but why do they keep saying Back spasms ?
And why can't he take pain medication ? I have literally had a back spasm and taken medicine and played ball in my rec leaugue the same night. Your right he has back problems not spasms... ;)

You guys still have other players like Battier and Head. its easy to feel pessimistic right now but the Rockets can survive this coming from a guy who has experienced the same feelings as you guys you can trust my word. the Rockets will be fine.

McGrady will never be healthy, that was merely confirmed by what happened this season (again).

Yao likely won't be back before March, which will be too late to 'rescue' this team.

And how exactly do you predict that we will get past the first round this season? The top three seeds in the West are: Spurs, Mavs, Suns. Even a Rockets squad with fully healthy Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady would still be a big time underdog against any of those three teams.

It ain't looking good, and McGrady will be re-injured the first game he tries to play all-out to carry the load for an injured Yao. He just physically can't handle that anymore, I don't care how 'healthy' he or the Rockets brass claim he is.

Sorry, RR, it looks very bleak...

There are too many bad teams in the league(Memphis, Philly, Charlotte) for the Rockets to get that good of a draft pick from tanking. It's supposed to be a deep draft though, so a top five pick would still be nice.

Chill guys, it isnt as bad as i thought. But yea, we are kinda screwed in the ass now with this team... We certainly can't get a good seed now...

If Mcgrady can not carry this team during all this time, then i say, Trade him... This is my first time saying that, but if he can not get the job done, we need to rebuild with new pieces to go around yao next year or the years to come... :(

This blows... :( :( :( I don't know whether to cry or punch a whole in the wall!!!

Hope T-mac is responding ok to the workout/shootaround.

Anyone go to the game? Anyone watch him practicing on the practice court that you can watch from the street level and see how he looked?
