Hmm... I wonder if these gyms around the country have room for an audience. Maybe they can have games and sell tickets?
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/7636482.html Rockets fan out for lockout Players get just 1 week of practice with new coach By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2011 Houston Chronicle July 1, 2011, 8:20PM For one busy week after the NBA draft, the Rockets filled Toyota Center with offseason workouts, putting players through individual drills and three-on-three games as new coach Kevin McHale got a good look at the hand he's been dealt. Then the lockout hit like a boot stomping in a puddle, scattering players in all directions. Barred from the practice court, the Rockets headed into their offseason, with no sense of when they reconvene or how great the cost will be of having not put in the time with a new coaching staff. As sudden and startling as the change had been from a week with as many as 11 players practicing to the lockout in which even their pictures were removed from the Toyota Center concourses and league websites, the reality of having been locked out with no end in sight hit home hard. "It's frustrating, it's disappointing, it's depressing for us," center Hasheem Thabeet said. "This is part of our job. I guess we have to go through it." 'We just have to wait' They could be going through it well into the scheduled start of next season. As much as they hoped to avoid the lockout, they expected and have accepted it. "I've been at one of the meetings. It was interesting to hear the dialogue," said guard Kyle Lowry, the Rockets player representative. "We're far apart. I don't think anybody wants a lockout, but it's a part of the business. Hopefully, we can figure something out before the season starts next year. The players' union will stick together. The executive committee and the players will try to get a deal done that works for everybody. "It's part of what goes into being in this business. We have to be patient and hopefully things work out for the better. We just have to wait." While they wait, Rockets players said they have arranged to train elsewhere. Lowry said he will work out in Houston but likely will return to the camp in Las Vegas he and Chuck Hayes attended last summer. Marcus Morris will work out with former NBA guard Pooh Richardson in Los Angeles. Jonny Flynn works with John Lucas in Houston. Kevin Martin and Courtney Lee have been working with David Thorpe in Tampa, Fla. Thabeet said he has been discussing options around the country but has not made his choice. Rookie Donatas Motiejunas has returned to Treviso, Italy, for a training camp there and said he intends to play for Benetton Treviso next season if the NBA does not start on time. "We can all spend the summer getting better, and I can take time to maybe see my family a little more," Lowry said. "I got to where I am in shape. I don't want to overdo myself and be ready right away. You can break your workout down to work on particular things for a longer time. "I'll definitely be in Vegas working out with my guy there, but I have things set up to get my work in when I'm in town. I'm going to try to get my teammates together in the summer so we can work out and play and get familiarized with each other a little more." Players around the NBA will make similar plans, but Rockets players believed the coaching change would have made the offseason work with McHale especially important. Instead, McHale and team officials cannot speak to players or their representatives, with the week together as much a reminder of the work needed as a step in that direction. It's 'going to hurt us' "It's definitely hard, very frustrating," forward Jordan Hill said. "When you're with the Rockets, you have people to push you to get better. Some guys it will be hard. They are on their own, have never been on their own, never been through a lockout. That's why I'm glad to have the people I have around me. ... I'm going to do what I have to do to get better, even on my own. "It's going to be a long few months, but I have to keep my head up. It would be better if we could spend the whole summer to figure out the system, get to know the staff, get to know Kevin McHale a little better. It's definitely going to hurt us. When the lockout is over, we probably won't have much time to communicate and get to know the system before the season starts. It's definitely going to hurt us." There will be a lot of that to go around. As the Rockets discovered when they went their separate ways, there already is. jonathan.feigen@chron.com

Not really an update of any sorts but Courtney Lee talking about his Magic days/possible upcoming FA next year.("Hopefully an extension or some offers at the end of the year.") [rQUOTEr]WINTER PARK -- Former Orlando Magic guard Courtney Lee will enter his fourth season in the NBA. He spent last year with the Houston Rockets -- his third team in three seasons. He wonders if he'd still be on the Magic roster today if he would have converted a potential game-winning alley-oop in the '09 NBA Finals. "I think about a hundred scenarios every day when I wake up," Lee said. "Today I was thinking about if we would have won one of those games in L.A. to begin with -- would the series have been different? Because we came home and won Game 3." Three years ago, Lee was a wide-eyed rookie in the starting lineup for the Orlando Magic against the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. The Magic were blown out in Game 1 at the Staples Center by a 100-75 score. Game 2 was a much tighter contest. The score was tied at 88 with 0.7 seconds left in the game. Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy directed Hedo Turkoglu to throw an inbounds pass in the direction of the hoop for Lee to catch and score. The play worked out to perfection --- until --- Lee released the ball. He fingerrolled it and the ball bounced over the hoop and time expired before Dwight Howard rebounded and dunked Lee's missed attempt. "It should've gone in," Lee said. "It was a tough layup. If you give me that layup ten times, I'm going to make it nine out of ten. It was just that one time it happened to be 'that game' that I missed. Credit Pau Gasol. He did a good job of getting his arm up and distracting me and credit 'Turk' (Hedo Turkoglu). He threw a good pass. I should have been able to make it." Los Angeles won Game 2 in overtime by a 101-96 score. "We could have easily been up 2-1," Lee said. The Magic won Game 3 in Orlando by a 108-104 score, but the Lakers won the next two games in O-Town to claim the championship. "That was something that I had to get over," Lee said about the missed alley-oop. "It happens and you either let it crush you or you let it motivate you and I'm one of those guys -- I let it motivate." Lee, who still resides in Orlando, is working out at Rollins College in Winter Park during the current NBA lockout. He averaged 8.3 PPG last season as a reserve for the Houston Rockets. 2011-12 will be a 'contract year' for Lee, which means he'll have a chance to earn a long term deal after the season is complete. [rquoter]Former Arizona Wildcat Jordan Hill put on a show Saturday at the Tucson Summer Pro League. Hill, the eighth pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, played in two games at Northwest Center, scoring a combined 47 points and 24 rebounds. The 6-10 forward recently completed his first full season with the Houston Rockets, averaging 5.6 points and 4.3 rebounds in an average of 15.6 minutes per game. In his first game Saturday, he had 25 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks in a losing effort as Truly Nolen defeated Crest Insurance 71-65. Mark Fresby had 19 points and nine rebounds for Truly Nolen. Carlos Mendez added 18 points for Crest. Hill later played for Sol Casinos, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 58-50 victory over DC’s Barber Shop. Hill could have bigger numbers, but he sat out for a while in a show of sportsmanship when DC’s big man, 31-year-old Anthony Oates (who played at UMass), was out with an injury. Mike Biancuzzo scored 12 points for Sol Casinos, and Donte Williams added 11. Guillermo Bay and Oates led DC’s Barber Shop with 11 points each. Hill told Dave Cooney of KOLD Channel 13 that he will spend time later this summer in San Diego, working out with former Arizona teammate and current Rockets teammate Chase Budinger. “I plan on going out for six weeks and having some fun with him and his trainer,” Hill said [/rquoter] [rquoter]TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Former Wildcat Jordan Hill has been called a lot of things in his lifetime, a pro, a freak athlete, an elite shotblocker, these are all positive. However, there is one label that has followed him the past couple years that doesn't follow that trend, and that is "bust". This is without a doubt the most crucial offseason in Hill's career, whether it be college or pro. The NBA's 8th overall pick in 2009 hasn't quite lived up to the hype that was generated when he owned the court at the McKale Center. As is the case with many NBA players, they are carrying on as the normally would with offseason workouts. Hill returned to The University of Arizona the past week to get in some conditioning and visit some friends. Hill also played a couple pick up games at the Tucson Summer Pro League Saturday. Hill said he wasn't jumping out of the gym or throwing hard fouls, but was just focused on some conditioning. The former Wildcat also shed some light on what the rest of his summer workout plans involve and it includes joining a former Wildcat teammate.[/rquoter] Video Spoiler <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.KOLD.com/global/video/videoplayer.js?rnd=757712;hostDomain=www.KOLD.com;playerWidth=300;playerHeight=240;isShowIcon=true;clipId=6058606;flvUri=;partnerclipid=;adTag=Sport;advertisingZone=;enableAds=true;landingPage=;islandingPageoverride=false;playerType=STANDARD_EMBEDDEDscript;controlsType=fixed'></script> If video doesn't show or work, click 2nd link if you care to watch
Excited to see that Jordan Hill is the most talked about Rocket so far this offseason. Meaning any Rocket that has played in the past 2 seasons. Sounds like he went all beast mode in these two games. This is going to be his breakout season coming up folks.
Yeah and the level of competition was so intense and fierce. He was playing against a bunch of guys who wont even make d-league. Nice. He should go play in Puerto Rico or China, he wont make it in Euro.
I know you are wanting to be funny, but even his teammates have seen and commented on his improved play. So....
Don't bother asking about Thabust. He will be there... a week before training camp starts. On a positive note, it appears Hill is working his tail off this off season. I am encouraged, but let's see if he can become more focused a whole season long.
Has anyone seen or heard anything about Marcus Morris since the start of the lockout? I hope he is not just sitting around doing nothing. He doesn't seem like the type that would.
If no one posts an article about a particular player I think it is safe to assume they have done zero basketball activity, they ate to much and are now fat, they will never pan out, and will be out of the league next year.
