Please. It's because I don't want us to lose that I oppose this war and the adminstration that pushed it with lies, exploited it, executed it, and lost it.

And you totally misrepresented my post and ignored its substance.

    Basso,

I know it's hard to admit you were wrong and to apologize for passing off someone else's ideas and writing as your own. So, I've decided to help a brotha out.

I'm releasing the following text to the public domain. You may duplicate, revise, or alter it in any way you see fit, without attribution-

    I was wrong.

I promise not to plagiarize ever again.

    I am sorry.

Yet another empty rhetorical device used by the right... Neither Clinton nor any other president in American history would have launched this war. Only W.

And if you think the media has been harsh on W and easy on Clinton, you're forgetting some recent history.

Damn, pass the popcorn. basso gets busted for plagiarism and not only continues to post as if it didn't happen but actually accuses rimrocker (the most link-happy poster on the board) of same -- pretending to bust the guy who originally posted and linked the original comments of stealing them even while he blatantly rewrites someone else's comments without credit. TEH AWESOME.

Sorry basso but quit while you're still behind.

Echoing others' sentiments is inevitable given the sheer volume of discourse. I do it, you do it, everybody does that. Copying somebody's work and passing it off as your own by changing a few phrases is not the same animal.

Lost in the shuffle of this scandalous turn is that so very much of what you "wrote" is just plain wrong and inapplicable at this point for reasons already stated.

You forgot to add that he is still blaming the Iraq cluster**** on those who had the gall to oppose it from the beginning.

True, but in fairness to basso the war probably would have been a spectacular success if it weren't for my incredible powers of wish.

Nice try at deflecting the attention from your plagiarism, but no cigar. As is clear from my post, I'm not talking directly about the stuff from Kos or Lehrer but rather, why the administration pursued rhetoric and timelines designed to heighten the divisions in the country. The most obvious answer is because they thought they could use the build-up and the war as a political wedge issue that would help them win elections.

Over the last 5 years, many have raised the issue of the war ultimately being an electoral strategy, but the words in this thread are my own. And now that it has been proven beyond a doubt (see Bush citing the upcoming election as to why he wasn't honest with the American public... "Absolutely we're winning.") it seems to me the question needs to be asked of those who support this war... again... if it's so damn important, why has the administration intentionally played partisan politics with it instead of seeking to minimize the natural fault lines any war produces.

Anyone should feel free to call me what you want. The only nickname I hate is one that's a riff off of my real name.

    To further make the point...

Yet we are on the way to victory in a really important war, are we not? Why are these Republicans such gloomsters? Why do Evans and Novak care if it is a political failure... victory must be acheived. Really now, what would it say if we left without victory just to preserve Republicans electoral chances in 2008?

    Oh, the irony.

Yes, and for the record, I'm not The Dude... I more resemble Walter, though I am a decent bowler.

the whole blame the press and anti-war activists bit is beyond lame.

It also doesn't take into account the fact that the press and vast majority of those who oppose the Iraq war have been very supportive of actions in Afghanistan.

Of course that military action isn't going well either. It is ridiculous to pretend that the same people who support and are in favor of military action in AFghanistan for some inexplicable reason want us to lose Iraq.

The press was entirely uncritical of the Iraq war in the beginning, and the NY Times had to issue an apology because they were negligently so.

All of these facts are conveniently left out of the argument by those that have engaged in "Tinkerbell"(credit to CBF) tactics.

Why should we believe anything you say when you just got busted for plagiarism and are pretending it didn't happen?
