Scola's not going back to a the Euros for money. He wants to play in the REAL league. these articles are written by reporters who think just because our dollar is weaker players are just going to say "hey money's more important than living in THE greatest county on earth. IF THAT WAS THE CASE HALF THE LEAGUE WOULD BE ON ITS WAY.
Here is the link that says the rockets are prepared to lose scola link All it says is according to Tom.com's "source" last month some greek team offered to buy Scola's contract from the Rockets for 5 times his salary this season, a offer which the rockets refused. After that a Russian team said they would offer Scola $15 Million, if Scola accepts Rockets would have to let him go. Honestly not only does this article refuse to provide any sources on paper, it also botched up the title. Even if this is real the Rockets didn't "prepare to let Scola go". So yea don't take this seriously at all.
Rockets are not going to let Scola go. He has a contract and they are going to hold him to it. If he goes back to the Euroleague, then that team would have to buy out his remaining contract and he basically does a Vspan and breaks his contract.
Panathinaikos is prohibited by FIBA rules from offering a contract to Scola. FIBA and the NBA have a reciprocal rule against signing away the other league's players that are currently under contract with that league.
Deke doesn't count against the Ltax (10 year minimum rule). The Ltax increased to 71.5 mil. Gerald Green went off, Harris went off and Woods is an option to go off the Rockets payroll. The Rockets are at about 67.25 mil of salary without resigning Landry Woods and the Rookies. That puts them about 4 mil under the upper threshold. They'll probably sign the rookies for at least 1.5 mil combined and if they sign Barry that adds 1.9. Which leaves about 1/2 a mil to offer Landry and stay under the LTax. So yes most of Landry's salary will be matched $ for $. Paying Landry the full MLE would be a hard to bullet to bite or is that pill to swallow. But as Van Gundier said INdy never said they were offering the full MLE and I doubt anyone will.
Every year 50+ players get drafted. Out of those 50, only 5-6 end up being difference makers. And it seems we were lucky that Landry was one of those. Giving him a lot of money might be a gamble, but it is probably worth it.
Well, we used to throw tons of money at our players. It certainly didn't motivate them to do any better back then.
The Scola question is ridiculous. He's under contract with the Rockets and cannot leave for Europe any more than he can leave for the Cleveland Cavs if Danny Ferry make him a higher offer than his current salary. Yes, it's a different league, but I believe there are arrangements among the leagues that obligates teams and players to respect each other's contracts-- otherwise, why would Spanoulis have had to negotiate his way out of Houston instead of just leave?
Navaro was a Free Agent. Scola will have to ask the Rockets to end his contract like VSpan. There is one reason why Scola couldn't play in the NBA b4 and was because he was under contract in Euro. There is no true at all.
Point is..and I think he'd be a scum if he did this. He could easily follow in the footsteps of Vspan and just leave. Contract? What contract? Who cares.
This is becoming a distraction that could cost the team this summer. He has a history of knee injuries. His production was largely due to him being unknown. He lived off of putbacks and chip shots. Can he produce when his man actually guards him? He was phenonmenal off the bench and has a great upside but I wouldn't pay him more than $3 million a year based on the sample size we got from him last season.
Sinch we have a team full of guys that cant seem to make lay-ups sometimes, we need a guy like Landry who knows how to finsih at the rim...with authority! I hope something gets done soon.
i think we all underestimate the odds that we don't get landry back at all. 1) he has a balky knee 2) he has a terrible agent 3) he is not playing in summer league 4) he has not gotten the medical work the rockets wanted it all adds up to something uncomfortable as far as i'm concerned.
you're right... just let Landry go...i don't think paying him would be worth it... and no, i don't think there is anyone on the Pacers we want...
Okay, if Indy's really interested in Landry, then let's use the leverage we have to match his offer, & work a deal out. I know it's illegal to openly use that leverage to orchestrate another deal, but this is a business & behind closed door deals go on all the time. And, I suspect that it happens in the NBA as well. So, with that thought in mind, check out this scenario. Bird: (ring ring) Morey: Hello. Bird: Daryl, this is Larry Bird. How are you doing today? Morey: Hey Larry, I'm doing great. What can I do for you? Bird: Well, we're really interested in your boy Landry & we're thinking about making him an offer. Are you guy's serious about matching any offer he gets? Morey: That's our plan, unless someone makes us an offer we can't refuse. Bird: So, you're open to working out a deal? Morey: Sure, what'd you have in mind? Bird: You still interested in Brandon Rush? Morey: Yes, we are. Bird: Good. We'd be willing to trade his rights in a package deal in exchange for you not matching our offer to Landry. You interested? Morey: Absolutely! Bird: Okay. Of course, we have to make it so that the league doesn't get suspicious. Morey: Yeah. Who you have in mind? Bird: Well, everyone knows I'm trying to trade Tinsley. Would you be interested in him? He's a great assist man. Morey: Yea, but he's been injured a lot & has 3 years left on a bad contract. You'd have to make it a real sweet deal. Bird: What if I throw in our 1st round pick next year? Of course, I'd want it to be lottery protected. But, we'd make it unconditional the following year. Morey: Hmmm....., let me throw an idea out at you. It'll have to be 2 different trades, because you just traded for one of the players. Here's what I propose: I'll send Luther Head in exchange for Maceo Baston & your 2nd round pick in the first trade. For the second trade, I'll send Bobby Jackson + the Memphis 2nd round pick in exchange for Tinsley, the rights to Brandon Rush, & your conditional 1st round pick as you alluded to earlier. How's that sound to you? Bird: So, I get Landry, Head, Jackson, & a high 2nd round pick in exchange for Tinsley, Baston, Rush, our 2nd round pick next year & a conditional #1 pick. I can live with that. Let's do the deal. Morey: I'll draw up the papers. Oh, by the way, to make it look real, I'll take the full 7 days to make the announcement to not match Landry's offer. Bird: Good idea. Bye. Morey: Bye. (click) Okay, I know it sounds stupid, but it might happen that way. Here's what our revised roster could look like. C: Yao/Mutombo/Dorsey PF: Scola/Hayes/Dorsey SF: Battier/Baston/Novak/Greene SG: T-Mac/Barry/Rush PG: Alston/Tinsley/Brooks
Brandon Rush would freakin be incredible to have here... your write up was fantastic...not very believable, but very awesome nonetheless... i would trade Landry for Rush all day, and twice on Sunday...
Pacerfans are salivating over Landry. They see him as their future starting PF. Posted by some anoymous Pacers Fan. 3/$18M is perfectly acceptable for Landry considering the going rate for big men and what he showed during his outstanding rookie season. If you don't wanna go over the luxary tax, you may be able to get the Rockets to take on Quis' expiring in a sign and trade. Some team may give him that kind of a contract, but I doubt it. What I don't doubt is it won't be from the Pacers, unless it's in a S&T with a Pacer player who has an expiring... Quis or Foster. Response from another Pacers Fan. A 4-5 mil a year for 3-4 years is more what I'd expect as a contract.
