Last year he declined significantly, and he was forecasted to be declining as well. Everyone thought he was going to bounce back and that the year before was a bad year - this ran contrary to expectations. You take that plus his personality and it is no surprise he is going south.
It is definitely a surprise. A huge, shocking surprise - to everyone. Last year, he was third in the league in assists. Nobody predicted he would now struggle to get backup minutes. That site doesn't say anything like that.
It was brought up in a prior thread and people did question what kind of Lawson would show up. Now, granted, people thought it would be his alcoholism but clearly his mental state is fragile and he can't take much set-backs. I was surprise at how bad he was for sure. But in hindsight the warning signs were there, that's all I am saying.
Obviously, his alcohol made it a risk. That's why we got him for what appeared to be so little at the time. But physical decline? Physical decline overnight like this without injury is as close to unprecedented as you can get. And you throw out that site like it's a perfect example of how this was predictable when the site predicted pretty much the exact same production as the previous year. It's like you're pushing one narrative but providing evidence of the opposite. Lawson is just a crazy mystery. I still don't think we know enough to say that he really isn't capable of being a good player now, but everything is looking bad for him.
Just saying he was in decline even as a nugget...his shooting towards the end of the season in Denver was pretty bad.
Lawson is -12 in 4 minutes after the 1st half tonight. It is like he is getting paid by opposing teams now
Harden and Lawson are now an entangled pair. Whenever Harden is dominating the ball, Lawson will be instantly affected no matter how far away the two might be from one another.
