As the midnight deadline for their trade exception approached, the
Pacers were planning to let it expire. Although they will be well over
the salary cap, they could have used the exception -- gained in the
trade of Antonio Davis to Toronto for the draft pick used on Jonathan
Bender -- to acquire a player at a salary up to $4.5 million.
They considered free agents such as Maurice Taylor, Howard
Eisley and Brad Miller, but decided to focus on their own free agents.
If they sign all six, their roster heading into training camp will include
    14 players with guaranteed contracts.

Neither the paper nor NBATalk seemed to think it was a big deal, but they could of had a $4 million dollar player cheap. I hope the Rockets do a better job with their exception.
