Saw it at the midnight showing in Sugar Land. I really liked it, but a lot of people in the theatre really hated it... There definitely were mixed feelings. Spoiler I think what really got on people's nerves was the retreat from a 'historical' feel and more into science fiction. Although I feel for this generation the mythology of Crystal Skulls and UFO's interacting with ancient cultures is something more mysterious and new to us. The Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant are just old and played out. We've seen it all before, so I'm glad Lucas and Spielberg stuck with this story. Crystal Skulls are the new Holy Grail
Saw the midnight showing last night. I enjoyed it for the most part. Spoiler Seems like everyone I've talked to, have the same mixed opinion, they liked it, but that the sci-fi angle seemed out of place for an Indy movie. I'm on board with that sentiment, but I have to admit that the tone of the movie, look of the film, stunts etc. really did feel like an Indiana Jones picture. So it worked for me, despite the inter-dimensional beings.
Spoiler Man this damn alien crap really killed it for me, aside from spoiling it for me. In the morning I had the news on channel 11. They were interviewing people after a showing of the movie and the last idiot they interview said "I liked it, but I was surprised they went extraterrestrial with it" I got pissed when I heard that, one because the idiot spoiled it, and two because thats stupid. Indiana Jones 5 should be about Indy going out across the land in search of nude photos of the chick from the Harry Potter movies. edited by Admin to put in spoiler tags
Just got back, loved it loved it loved it. Typical Indiana Jones stuff, dealing in mythos etc......very fun. DD
I have the choice of going tonight with my family who are less into it,...but I can't wait...versus tomarrow with co-workers who are into it like me.... The "can't wait" wins out... ...May see it agin Fri. as well if I really enjoy it...
Did anyone else watch The Mummy movies before the Indiana Jones movies and thought the latter were terrible?
That would be hard to believe if you mean that the Mummy is better than any of the Indiana Jones movies. You'd be in a very small minority. What makes the Mummy movies better? Indy is iconic. I doubt even if Brenden Frasier did his movie first that he would achieve the same thing. Although maybe being Han Solo and the legion of nerds support built in helped Indy's success?
I didn't like either, but I expected the Indiana Jones movies to be a lot better than the Mummy movies or the National Treasure movies or even the Tomb Raider movies, and, to me, they weren't, maybe I had to see them as a child and during the time they were released to appreciate them, who knows...
I'm getting sick of the overuse of computer graphics. The opening shot of a computerized gopher was a very bad omen. It's almost like Star wars episode one all over again. I enjoyed the first quarter of the movie because it was pretty similar to the previous movies. But it all got more and more ridiculous as it went on. Damn monkeys.
This was a bad movie, people. Right now a lot of folks are hesitant to pile on because it's freaking Indiana Jones. He's an icon. But mark my words. In 10 years.....screw that, in 2 years, this will be widely regarded as a very poor entry in an otherwise classic movie franchise. I saw it with about a dozen friends. One liked it. ONE!!! Awful CGI, stupid convoluted plot, a worthless villain, lame action sequences, corny dialogue(Marion's reunion with Indy could've been handled so much better), and aliens. Aliens for chrissakes! And BTW, that shot of the spaceship was right out of the first X-Files movie and the FX were more impressive in that flick 10 years ago. I don't know if the box office will suffer too much next weekend since it only has Sex and the City to contend with, but word of mouth is going to be brutal.
It's apparently a hit with old men. jajajajaj!!!!!!! It just seemed so flat to me. Like they half assed the whole thing. That kid from transformers had no chemistry with Harrison Ford. Actually, that might have been the worst piece of casting this year. Horrible choice. ....and finally I waited almost 20 years for.... Spoiler Some F**king Aliens!!!!!!
Saw it yesterday. I liked all the subtle references to Raiders and The Last Crusade through the dialog and such. Didn't pick up on any for The Temple of Doom though. But any ways I liked it and will probably go see it again if I have some spare time. One question though: Spoiler From a little bit of dialog in it hints at Mutt not being the boys real name. The dialog comes in the diner scene where the boy introduces himself to Indy as Mutt Williams to which Indy replies "What kinda name is that?" and the boy replies "It's the name I picked you gotta problem with that". I guess that little bit of dialog was trying to set up hints of the relationship between the two by referencing back to The Last Crusade and the fact that Indiana wasn't Indy's real name and that Indy chose to name himself after the family dog. Any ways I never heard any other name and Mutt may indeed be the boy's real name but if it was mentioned can some one please tell me what it was. Thanks.
