I heard on free beer and hot wings morning show, that the review has been the only action movies worth it the rest of the year is the upcoming Batman, Ironman, and Indiana Jones 4 movies... That's it...
The movie premiered in Cannes last night and so far the reviews have been mostly positive: 71% according to Rotten Tomatoes with 35 reviews in. If it could be on par with either of the two sequels, then I (and most IJ fans) would be pretty happy. Just for refrence, Raiders scored 95%, Temple of Doom 87% and Last Crusade was 90%.
I just read a newspaper review which gave it 2 out of 5 stars. It struck the note "19 years since the last movie and this is the best they can come up with?". It says the scenes with LaBeouf and Jones...they are almost "indifferent" to each other (doesn't sound like the best chemistry). It says there is basically no plot...just non-stop action. It kind of ripped Blanchett in the villain role as well...saying the more she appeared...the more the film deflated (I read that people were not accepting of her attempt at the accent). All the bad reviews indicate that this is just a film going through the motions and it doesn't hold a candle to the other films. It also said it has no real character development and wants you to just accept that this is Indy from movies past while trying to make him more relevant to today's audience. Basically, summed it up with this movie being "noisy, overstuffed, mechanical and, above all, soulless". Ouch.
The Angry Nintendo Nerd talks about the Trilogy-NES edition... <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34277"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=34277" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object>
I'll probably go see it tonight at Alamo. They have Chicken Korma on the Indy Trilogy themed menu! Yum! I hope my dislike of Lucas doesn't grow even more after seeing this. When was the last project he had a hand in that didn't taste like George Lucas' hand?
Ouch, I was watching Attack of the Show vids and they had one of the reviewers from CHUD.com on there and one of his descriptions of the movie is that it's "the very best Mummy movie(the Brendan Frasier series) yet, without a doubt." I get the feeling it will be fun, but if you are a big fan of the series, it won't feel like it really belongs.
If the critics hate it, I look at that as a good thing. Because they were just so right when they all said The Phantom Menace was spectacular in pre-release reviews...
I recall quite a few negative(or at least mediocre) reviews for that movie. Granted, many people absolutely despise TPM these days(and rightfully so). But it's not like word of mouth was overwhelmingly good back in '99.
It was received well @ Cannes also. I cant wait to see it. Hopefully we'll get to see Indy kicking some Nazi tail.
I believe it is just like those Star Wars fans: No matter how good it is, it will never be good enough for them. They have already decided they hate it.
It definitely could be. Although I was a huge Star Wars fan and thought the first prequel was bad, the second one was okay and the third was really good despite bad acting (the action/storyline made up for that). It had nothing to do with unrealistic expectations and everything to do with personal tastes There will be people that will hate it b/c it won't compare to Raiders, but what does? I can't wait to see it and am going in with the mentality that it will be good. Although I do think the previews don't look good...too much crazy action.
i thought they were commie-nazi's <embed src="http://xml.truveo.com/eb/i/139693896/a/58ef677afb89fc040e3dec6de7dd6c26/p/1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="345" ></embed>
I saw it at a midnight showing in a 1/5th full theater in Jacinto City. No spoilers here, it was entertaining...Maybe close to Temple of Doom level. Not Raiders quality but it has moments, will still probably be better than 90 percent of action stuff out this season.
