Im excited, although the trailer looks like it has alot more CGI than was originally advertised, which is disappointing. Should be a great flick. Who doesn't enjoy Indy kicking the tar out of the bad guys?
you know i loved all the old ones as a kid but wasnt too excited about the new... until last night i saw the preview in theatre. cant help getting it after hearing the theme music i guess.
Sorry, but this just looks absolutely terrible. Considering Harrison Ford hasn't sniffed a decent movie in over a decade, I'm gonna pass.
really?? you won't see it?? i will see it out of compulsion. I feel obligated to see it. (saw juno last night...unreal good)
The funny thing is, I was having deja vu when posting that. What's going be to even funnier is when I post next month about how excited I am for this movie.
The only thing that makes me nervous is the potentially excessive CGI. That's how Lucas ruined the recent Star Wars movies to me - wooden acting & poor writing is tolerable (just look at the original trilogy), but the whole thing just looked so damn fake in comparison. The miniatures, models & creature costumes in the originals were awesome.
I would completely disagree with you on that. Great story, dialogue, character development, and acting, together with great set design, and wardrobe are what make great movies. Notice I didn't mention soundtrack in that list? I feel that most movies rely way too much on their soundtrack to build a mood in the film (with the exception of musicals). I slightly agree with you on something else, though: special effects are best when CGI is not the primary source of the effect. CGI is best when it is used to enhance physical effects.
I brought that up strictly in the context of fun "popcorn" movies like the Star Wars's and Indiana Jones's.
Cool countdown thingy... <div style="width: 242px; height: 158px; padding: 0; margin: 0; background: #5A441E url(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mo/ij4/after_movieopens.jpg) no-repeat top left;"><object width="242" height="121" id="uvp_fop"><param name="movie" value="http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mo/ij4/ij_countdown.swf"><embed height="121" width="242" src="http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mo/ij4/ij_countdown.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" > </embed></object> <p style="text-align: center; margin-top: 8px;"><a href="http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/indianajones.html" style="color: #eee67b; font-size: 12px; font-family: arial;">Watch the Trailer on Yahoo! Movies</a></p></div> Why is it messed up though?
I disagree with your characterization of Star Wars as a "popcorn" movie and I also disagree with your assertion that the acting in the original trilogy was "wooden."
OK, not wooden. There was some awesomely bad dialogue & some awesomely cheesy delivery (Mark Hamil & James Earl Jones, I'm looking at you, especially). They're still great, but they are what they are. Disagree at will.
That Crystal Skull looks suspiciously like the RA-7 Death Star Droid http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/RA-7_Death_Star_Droid So obviously Han Solo, I mean Indiana Jones, will know how to find it.
And this is why my sig will never change. It never goes out of date. I agree with Buck that the acting and dialogue in the original was nothing special, but it wasn't terrible (though cheesy at parts). I also greatly prefer miniatures to CGI. The new trilogy was just all kinds of bad. Too much CGI, terrible script, terrible actors, terrible everything.
There were more miniatures/models created for each of the prequel movies than for all 3 original trilogy movies combined. You'd be surprised. I wouldn't worry about the new Indiana Jones - Spielberg is usually minimalist when it comes to effects.
