Yeah I meant the first script for Skulls. I liked the snake scene...except for the snake itself, which would have had to be toned down quite a bit. Maybe go with the sand pit sequence from Skulls to replace the giant Anaconda but then keep the bits before and after Spoiler I kind of groaned when he said he wasn't afraid of snakes anymore, but it came full circle after the snake confrontation when he discovered the tiny snake in his tent and freaked . The plane fight brought visions of Crusade back; but they would have to soften the acrobatics a little bit. Another sticking point is Indy is alone for a portion of the film. But usually there is some other presence on screen for him to talk to; so that would have had to have been addressed. Still for all it's weaknesses, it's superior to the final product.
Spoiler I liked that the aliens were going to be really mean in that script. You sort of felt like they would be just by the way they looked and how they all regained life. I wanted it to show a legitimate threat but it just never came. They just left. Here's how I would have made it. Divided into three main parts. 1. Jones escapes, introduces all of the characters and the mystery. 2. They uncover the mystery however jones learns that the aliens as soon as they are alive are going to destroy earth or something like that. History about how the aliens were truly evil. 3. Jones and his crew race to stop the woman(forget her name) from finding the city and planting the skull.
^^^ I like how the skull is surrounded in mystery. Everybody knows it holds immense power, everyone wants it, but no one knows how powerful it is or if it's something that should be unlocked, much like the arc. The old script as a whole, and I think it's a good thing, does resemble Raiders a lot as well. Spoiler The Aliens, like the arc, killed all those trying to use the skull's power for their own glory and gain but spared those who refused it's power (Indy)
I could easily see how the movie could have been saved. At this point in time, Lucas is a horror-show when he's hands on. I don't want to even think of how cringe-inducing Indy 5 is going to be. Rewatched the original trilogy with my wife over the past couple of weeks. Wow - I may have to take back what I said about this new one being weak but not weak enough to tarnish the legacy. I still think Ford himself did fine, but Marion was pitiful to watch, and the entire second half of that movie is a steaming pile. I really don't mind the first half at all - including the fridge scene. If the raft scene from Temple could happen, I'll let them slide with this. Crazy Raspberry Ants? No. Tarzan scene? Good god no. Evan
Just saw the film tonight and i'm not sure what to think. One part of me loved it since it's Indiana Jones, thought the action scenes were cool and what not. The other part of me wonders if the film was really necessary in the first place. Spoiler I mean, Indiana Jones vs. Aliens??? C'mon now....
I saw ToD a couple of weeks ago, and it doesn't belong in some hallowed trilogy. The homely chick was annoying, the kid was gimmicky and the "I got your heart" death move wasn't that realistic. I guess Indy 4 suffers from sfx overload and genre bending with the aliens (though one reviewer called the alien theme an "American religion"), but I still like it better than Temple.
That's true of so many movies. How much do special fx actually add to the movie going experience? I think they diminish it.
Is it a popcorn action flick? Or is it an Oscar worthy cinematic masterpiece? Bring on the effects if it's the latter!
I think people can detect whether the effect was made by a few nerds behind a computer or a bunch of badasses in real life in real time. Not that nerd-danger is less perilous. It's just cheap and George Lucas-like. No one likes George Lucas.
I get your vibe there probably wasn't enough action for an action movie but I did think those scenes were pretty cool especially the jungle scene with the cars.
Saw it last night. Spoiler Movie lost me when he crawled out of the refrigerator unharmed. Don't tell me junk like him living through a nuclear bomb and being thrown in a fridge and bouncing around in it happened in the old movies. It didn't. That required way too much suspension of reality.
I second the notion that the story seemed very forced and had no purpose. Example: Spoiler Why did Indiana Jones need to keep the skull from Russians? Had they just taken it to the city alone they would have died anyway. So there is no heroism involved at all here. He didn't save anyone. Bleh. Also, how stupid did these people have to be that it took them until the final temple scene to really figure out this was aliens? He examined the wreckage of Roswell, saw paintings of this stuff, and then held that skull in his hand for so long, knew it couldn't be made by modern technology, etc. but not until the very end did it really click this was aliens? I actually thought his son storyline was fine and I can live with Shia, but it felt so fake. I thought Marion would have been fine too if they'd given her any real reason to be in the film other than just "hey look, I had a baby with you!"
The jungle scene was okay. It got pretty lame when Shia was sword fighting while getting hit in the balls with shrubs. There wasnt enough cool stuff...where were the booby traps? hahha booby. nothing will compare to indy running from a ball or the 3 traps to get to the holy grail, but they didnt even try. also...i think it's been asked before, but what if indiana jones put the alien head on the alien body...would he have died? what was the point of that?
I still can't believe this movie is still making a ton of money...all the bad reviews and bad word of mouth, you would think it would die, but it won't...
