Sounds like you didn't want the trilogy mystique ruined. That's okay too. I totally hated Terminator 3 because T2 is one of the greatest movies of all time. But arguing over realism from a franchise that doesn't take itself seriously and flaunts it...riiigghtt. PS. I thought the snake scene was gold.
Honestly, the only scenes I thought were dumb were the 2 jungle ones with the kid. Otherwise I thought it was a worthy sequel, considering people are going into the movie with 20 years worth of built-up expectations.
Obviously any action/adventure is going to have over the top moments and Indiana Jones is ripe with them; Otherwise it'd be a pretty boring movie. And while the first three films erred more on the fun than dramatic, they didn't completely ditch all seriousness. To me, Kingdom pushed the envelope of silliness a little too far. I admit I was skeptical of producing a fourth installment this long after the third; I questioned the need for it. But I still went into the theater with an open mind, hoping for a good INDY flick. But like so many other sequels to great franchises, it turned out to be a disappointment for the most part. I'd say this film draws a remarkable parallel to Live Free or Die Hard; that movie was a pretty good action film, but it was NOT a Die Hard. And it wasn't just the silliness in Kingdom that bothered me a little too, but it's a number of stylistic and script choices the filmmakers made that didn't really connect well with previous installments. I wish they had more scenes like the snake scene...or rather any scene with Indy and Marion. It was fun, yeah it was silly, but there still was a small level of seriousness to it (much like the tomb trap scene in Doom). You know honestly, why couldn't they have switched Marion's and Mutt's roles in the film. Marion comes to Indy for help in rescuing her son, which Indy finds out later to be his son too. Completely plausible. And you get that great banter between the two for the whole film instead of just the second half.
I actually didn't have much expectations for the film...I think after 10 years past Crusade I'd given up on Indy. Plus, all the rumors I had heard about it over the years left me a little underwhelmed. So I watched it not knowing really what to expect. Was hoping for a good time though cause it's gotten generally positive reviews...which I don't completely understand. Like I said, it wasn't a bad movie, just a bad Indy movie. From the very first shot I could tell it was different and I was thinking, "uh oh." To each his own though.
It's damn hard to live up to Raiders and The Last Crusade. But it's not like Lucas went out there and gave us another Star Wars Episode I or II. This one tried to stay to true to the style of the orginal flicks, and was pretty damn entertaining even though there wasn't a real "no ticket!" type scene.
dungeons, caves, traps and obstacles, riddles, snakes and bugs, it sure felt like an Indy flick to me...
i hated this film, all my friends fell asleep through it, it is very boring, and a little too childish.
Spoiler When Jones is chasing after the Russians to get in the car before the atomic bomb goes off, does he yell "Shorty would've waited for me"? I thought that's what he said but nobody else in my group could confirm.
Why didn't you put the Temple Of Doom up there? I thought the TOD was equally satisfying as the first installment...
I always thought TOD lagged behind the others since the story didn't involve some crazy archeological dig. The girl was annoying too.
Amen. People shouldn't be calling it a bad movie by any means. Lucas and Spielberg had some big shoes to fill.
People when did reality EVER play a role in any hollywood adventure movie? This movie is no different than the other 3 and the hundreds of action adventure or Sci-Fi movies made before it. They are for entertainment value...an escape from true reality of day to day life.....High gas prices, work, changing diapers, traffic, bills, etc etc etc. Just go and enjoy a movie for christ sake. This was ENTERTAINING!! If you want reality than stay home.
snake scene had me in tears. hahahaha. My g/f doesn't even know the history of indy and she still laughed at that scene.
It was a pretty good film...but a mediocre Indy flick. And I stand by that. Maybe I'll appreciate it more upon repeated viewings. But I dunno.
Unfortunately, I am liking it less and less as the days pass. But I'm not going to whine about it like some have been around the office this morning. I had my expectations low so I wouldnt be devastated (a la The Phantom Menace).
Well, I made a deal and had to see Narnia in order to take my daughter to see Indi...It was way too cheesy and predictible for my liking...I would have liked to see better special effects and a better story... Indi is just too damn old and so was the story...I know I'm just b*tchin as sequels usually go downhill, and IMHO, it did...
