I must say I am extremely proud that Bobby Jihad has won the governorship of Louisiana ~ I look forward to the many casinos he will have built along with Indian uprising in LA that is sure to follow.

lol, the tears are real for many folks. whether it improves anything beyond their immediate emotional distress is debatable.

please don't adopt any black kids. indifference isn't in short supply ...

i actually work with black kids and teach them interviewing skills and other things to help them be successful in life. But I do tell them if you believe that what's inside is yours and no one can take that away from you, then the world really is yours.

many of them believe that they can't succeed because they are black. that's the most awful thing and it makes me angry everytime i hear it. not angry at them, angry at whoever put that stupid thought into their head.

It's a good mindset to have. I hope those kids stand up and demand respect, as per your advice, if they are ever discriminated against.

No, no one can take away their respect if they respect themselves, it doesn't matter what anyone says to them. They don't need the respect of strangers, they have it from those who counts - and number one is themselves. And i make them stand tall and carry themselves in a respectful way. I make it clear to them that they should dress in a respectful way, in a way that they see themselves with respect. Because if they respect themselves, others will follow suit.

The real destructive power of racism is in the way it infects the mind, particularly on younger kids. And it's not just white people who do this to them, it's the weight of those around them, of their own race, that gets into their heads.

Blaming race, whether it's true or not, is too easy of an excuse, an excuse for failure. I don't know, these kids seem to respond to it...but who really knows at the end of the day. I do believe that you can't control the outside world, but everyone can control the inside one, and that's where the focus should be.

charitable work is, imo, the highest form of service so kudos! reinforcing self belief is very commendable. just my opinion, but i'd add, as i did for my kids, arming themselves with a certain knowledge/skill set that overwhelms HR agents.

you may well believe employability is color blind, hope this unfortunate ignorance doesn't marginalize your ability to arm the younguns with real world abilities.

NYer again i commend your social service, but the dynamics of inferiority aren't difficult. shout dumb, stupid, inferior as a mantra for a half a millennium ... some will believe. hell, they'll teach it to their kids!

My brother-in-law is a Cajun, born in Kaplan, Louisiana. I can't wait to hear what he thinks of this. By the way, he makes world class gumbo!

I like the message you're giving the kids. But I also feel any self-respecting person should speak out if they are being denied fair treatment because of their race. Surely, you agree.

well, i do it because i get a high out of it, i do it for me and don't think of it as charitable work.

employability may not be color blind, but there's nothing you can do about it except break through anyway. life is not fair. but the power of a human mind is enormous, and i believe that people have the faculty to do great things. most people's desires are well within their reach, they only have to go for it and commit themselves to acheiving their objectives. but if you don't believe in yourself, you are doomed.
