Wow, that must strike you odd that turned out this way. These people are there gathered to show their support for the country, troops and activity they are involved in. DeLay, a guy many of these people do not like, shows up and voices his support for the action, and was received well. A media hound like SJL, who has been openly criticizes the action and she decides to speak. She got booed?!?!? Damn, you don't say. Read an entire thread and you may have a clue and you will also accomplish two things: 1) Understand what is being said, why it’s being said, and how it’s relevant to this conversation 2) Reduce the increasing half informed posts by you "Wow, you've got serious balls calling" a commercial real estate leasing director's husband an "*******." Most people like to do those things they excel at, and I am noticing being an ******* seems to also come natural for certain people. Between the content and grammar, I have nothing to say about this post. I just thought I would include it as a quote b/c it really makes you look like a genius.
So DeLay voices his support for war, gets cheered. SJL is anti-war but shows up to show her support for "America" and she gets booed. Sounds like a pro-war rally to me.
And to think that if we had had just a few rallys supporting out troops in the 1960s, maybe they wouldn't have been harrassed and spit on when they returned home from Vietnam, often missing a leg. Nobody here wants war just to have war. The people who support the action in Iraq are those who accept the grim fact that sometimes war is the only way to achieve the long term good.
Are you serious. People are out there holding up George Bush signs but they don't like Tom DeLay? Please. That's ridiculous.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but I for one am somebody who supports George Bush but doesn't like DeLay.
And there are a ton of people who liked Clinton but didnt like Sheila Jackson Lee. At the same time, if there was a rally with Clinton supporters making up the majority of the audience who do you think people would boo, Tom DeLay or Sheila Jackson Lee.
By the way, Im sure the majority of Republicans hate Tom Delay. They dislike him so much that he's one of their top leaders. They dislike him because he goes out and raises a buttload of cash for the party. We all know Texas isn't a predominately conservative state and Tom DeLay fits perfectly within their agenda. Im sure if we took a poll of that audience yesterday, most people would say they disliked om DeLay and their views and his views are completely incongruent. And Fox News is totally unbiased and completely objective.
Call it what you want, if it makes you feel better to say something like that to make a point, so be it. I support military action. I feel it is justified if other forms of negotiation and resolve have failed, and at this time, that is what has happened. Saddam has not complied, the only hope of avoiding war is the threat of war. Never mind I could have simplified that post by just saying I am a blood thirsty, red neck, pro-war vigilante. What are you going to do next, tell me who I voted for? Oops, sorry that is RIET… I am not sure if this is the case everywhere, but where I vote, if I vote for one person, there are still a number of selections remaining before my ballot is complete. Though I voted for Bush, I have not voted for DeLay in the last 2 terms. There are a number of people he really rubs the wrong way. I know people who vote straight tickets who have gone in and selected everyone but him for piece of mind as well as to make a point. The Republican party is changing and a lot of the younger ones believe in a lot of what the party backs, there are many if not a majority who are tired of the old way and really want to change the party. ... and Stephanopoulos, Robert s and crew are completely unbiased… what’s the point? Do you need me to make a list of mainstream media outlets that are biased? I think we could be here a while. Read closely my friend… I did not state a majority, most or anything other than "MANY of these people do not like" do not like him and that is true.
Ok, now that I am wide awake and coherent, let me make the point I wanted to make. First, Mrs. JB makes some little jokes and it seems like you took it personal. Maybe it's just me, but rehashing an old thread, saying that she made "smart ass" remarks, and having a "in your face" attitude doesn't seem right to me when we're talking about a serious issue. Second, claiming that this rally for america was some non-partisan support for our nation is plain BS to me, especially when you assail the anti-war protestesters. Until I'm convinced otherwise, I'm going to assume that you think of the anti-war protesters as unamericans. It wouldn't be a problem, but again, claiming that the blatantly obvious "pro-war with Iraq regardless of what the UN decides or what the inspectors find" rally was non-partisan support of our nation angers me. It angers me because people on the left have been up front and have had no problem admiting that some of the protesters were being stupid and didn't have the purest intentions.
I do not think the anti-war Birkenstock wearers are un-american. I have some good friends that were out there in February. I disagree with them on this issue but they are patriotic. And the whole thing about this new breed of Republican is sooooo true. There are young republicans that fire blunts on occasion, have long hair, listen to rap, hate big business, and believe poor people should get assistance. Personally, I can't wait for some of the old guard to start abandoning their posts or dying off so that the new blood can flow. I think a bunch of this sophomoric banter will die down over the next 10 years. Of course I could be wrong but I doubt it.
I despise both Tom DeLay and Sheila Jackson Lee. I'd have bood them both had I been there, or at least not cheered and remained silent. My parents tell me that they went to the rally, and they said it was not a Republican get-together as some here have tried to insinuate. They are not Republicans. Neither am I. I'd have liked to have gone, but I'm indisposed at the moment...
You have little to no real understand of reality. I, among many other Republicans who post here have expressed our displeasure with DeLay on many occasions. I guess you would just call us all disingenuous though.
And Im sure that all the Republicans here are a microcosm of Republicans in this state and in this country and that's why he holds absolutely no power in the party. Of course since I have little to to no real understanding of reality, it's all imaginary and actually DeLay is just a strawman and we all live in Wonderland.
You think showing up singing God Bless America, waving your flag, and cheering on Tom DeLay's war speech is being a good American but demonstrating against a potential war where US soldiers and innocent Iraqi civilians are going to die is being unamerican? Who needs to wear the red, white, and blue colored glasses to feel better about himself eh?
All it means is that he's popular in Sugarland and that he has made friends with the right people along the way...nothing more...nothing less.
What a weird argument. Why would anyone suggest that DeLay was unpopular among supporters of the war or the Republican party? He's been one of the most outspoken public figures on the war. He also wins elections by wide margins and enjoys his powerful position thanks to a vote by his fellow Congressmen. You could say Ted Kennedy or Hillary Clinton or Bill Frist are only popular in the places in which they ran and they just made the right friends along the way. You can say that about anyone who hasn't won a presidential race. I don't blame you for being embarrased that he's so powerful in a party you support though. We agree on that.
Before I answer another of your BS posts, show me who I called protesting "unamerican" or show me where I said those protesting action are un-American. I will be happy to answer you, but provide the proof on this first. I have no problem carrying on a conversation, but let’s not put words in each other’s mouth like telling me I am “pro-war” or others telling me who I voted for.
What has made him Majority Leader is the remaining old guard Republicans who like the traditional old style pricks like Delay. If you ask why he keeps being re-elected, a lot of that has to do with the makeup of Sugar Land, there are a lot of the older traditional Republicans out there.
What's funny is so many liberals on this board want to lump all evil with Republicans and assume that if you are a Republican then you are: 1. For killing babies in a war 2. Sticking it to minorities 3. Just out to line a select few conspiritors pockets with money 4. Against old people 5. Against women When a Republican on this board says "I'm not for killing babies in a war" the liberals say that that person is either lying or the exception. When will you all realize that Republicans are NOT evil? That all the bad things that get spread are all just propoganda lies spread by the Democrats? However all the evil things said about Democrats by Republicans is completely true.
