The more I think about it, the more it seems like the Rockets are creating a team within a team. Wall, Gordon, Wood, Thomas, Tate & Olynyk (if he is brought back) are all players whose peak is near/now or in the recent past. While guys like KPJ, KMart, Brooks and our incoming rookies are all guys whose primes are a few years away. So what I suggest is a rebuild where there are guys whose job it is to keep things afloat and teach the young guys the ropes and guys whose jobs it is to learn from the vets and work on their games. Essentially 2 teams that have differing goals but who come together on game day as a single unit where the best players get minutes regardless of which unit they might belong to. I know it's weird to put it this way but I don't think this is that odd of a situation. Perhaps describing it in terms of the roster will make more sense. The vets (aka the win now squad) 1 Wall/Thomas 2 Gordon/Thomas 3 Tate/Nwaba 4 Wood/Olynyk/Tate 5 Wood/Olynyk (Augustin and Bradley moved for draft capital) The Youngins (aka the future) 1 Porter/Cade 2 Cade/Brooks/Lewis 3 Martin/Cade/Wieskamp 4 Bassey/Sharpe 5 Bassey/Sharpe (In this scenario the Rockets won the lottery and drafted Cade Cunningham #1 overall, Charles Bassey and Day'Ron Sharpe with the Mil and Portland picks and then Scottie Lewis and Joe Wieskamp in round 2 from trading Augustin and Bradley) This is simply a way of looking at how the team is built. So even though I may segregate players here for the purposes of future or present they all play together on game day. You mix and match from each as necessary. This does allow the young guys not to be forced into action early as there is a vet for them to play behind until they're ready though. Idk, it's dead until the lottery and I started thinking about this and so I'm posting it here.
If you're going to dream, dream big. Also, think the rest of the exercise stays the same if you are able to get Suggs or Green too. Losing the pick or selecting Mobley or Kuminga changes some things though.
i will be releasing a vid guide on utube one of these days. it's basically lots of muscle tightening of le peen and uranus play.
Wood is trying to get a max contract in 2 years...EG will be playing for a new contract as his is not guaranteed after this year...Wall is selfish and trying to prove he’s a franchise player on a bad team, I see these guys just going for their numbers
according to realGM.com 19/20 rookie scale: #1 pick- $8.1M #2 pick- $7.3M #3 pick- $6.5M #4 pick- $5.9M Augustin $7.0M Bradley (team option $5.9M) House 3.9M (don't forget the House) Armoni Brooks was on dual player contract. Will need to up his pay. Olynyk (? re-sign ?.....how much?)
EG and Wall are here only as long as it takes to find a deal to drop them. Wood will either be deserving of the contract he is looking for or shoulf be flipped as soon as this off-season if the brass doesn't seem him as turning the corner to being the type that justifies that kind of coin. He is the only one if the 3 that isn't simply filling a roster spot.
Well, that's sort of the point. Those guys are playing on borrowed time as their replacements take their spots. Getting another lottery pick is kind of the point. That future team needs a power forward.
Let me get this straight... Yer talkin about having a group of guys that are experienced that carry the majority of the load... and mentor younger players... while at the same time, having a group of guys that are learning... or developing their game... and then you say allow both groups to contribute based on ability and situation...? Why MDA would call THAT crazy talk! You cant trust that many people to possibly contribute in actual game situations! You cant go around adjusting your rotation and minute distribution based upon current production... just crazy talk! sorry, havent had MDA around to b**** about in awhile and i was going into withdrawals... LOL!
