Yes, but what he represents we need here as much as you need there. Clearly he has some special significance in the US context, but what he represents is really global in its scope.
Those that "just don't get it" why this is such an important event crack me up. Whether you voted Democratic, Republican, or Nazi Party, and you "just don't get it" then you should probably not advertise your intellectual shortcomings.
My hope is that we are inspired to sweep out some of the old boys from our political system, and vote in some people who share Obama's worldview, and I honestly don't think that's too far away. Even here in ultra-conservative Calgary 80% of the people supported Obama. The race aspect to his presidency is mostly an American issue, it seems to me, but he also represents a generational shift, and very significant shift in worldview, all things that we can discuss in detail here in the coming weeks.
who was representing the Nazi Party on this ballot? but yes, I agree, I'm not an Obama supporter, but I still think it's a great day for America and for Americans. I hope the guy is great, I don't want to see things get any worse.
Man, John Roberts is an idiot. How hard is it to read such a short script? It worked out ok though. All the girls where I was watching the ceremony just thought it made Obama look cute.
The last prayer was badass. The rhymes are from sweet old blues song: http://www.lyricstime.com/big-bill-broonzy-black-brown-and-white-lyrics.html
I thought he sold the ranch in Crawford... Isn't he supposed to be living in Mark Cuban's neighborhood now? What the hell do I care - as long as he's not living in the white house anymore!
As I said, I recognize the cultural significance, but not the political. Culturally, he is not another WASP leading our country. Politically, he is another democrat leading our country. Obama doesn't walk on water nearly as well as so many people are expecting. Being non-white isn't going to make him a great president. Making big promises during a campaign isn't going to make him a great president. and being a democrat isn't going to make him a great president. If he does fantastic things while he's president... well then THAT's a good time to sing his praises. For now, he's just another newly-elected president making fanciful, pie-in-the-sky statements, just like every newly-elected president I've ever seen. And with all this in mind, I see no reason to get excited at this point in time. Time has taught not to believe the hype. You should be less judgmental. Regardless of the above, you shouldn't accuse others of having "intellectual shortcomings" just because we don't believe the hype. If you believe the hype, that's fine. I'm not going to call you stupid.
LMAO!!! Stephen A. Smith is on ESPNEWS right now and he was naming off all the stars he saw at the inauguration and he said this: "I saw Tim Robbins and his wife Sigourney Weaver. They were actually buying a comic book."
Hey, hey, now! Maybe we should slap a $10 surcharge on every barrel of oil we ship you just to teach you folks some proper respect.
You're from Calgary? I'm working on an Oil Sands project, and last week a bunch of people from Calgary invaded my office. I'm surrounded by them now.
NBC news just reported that during the luncheon there was a medical emergency involving Sen. Robert Byrd.
While race is not a non-issue here, it isn't nearly as big an issue here as it is in the US, for obvious reasons. OT - Did something just happen to Ted Kennedy?
