The power matched with the skill is what does it for me. To be able to be a legit 40/40 threat in MLB while casually being a 1,000 yard rusher when that mattered...it's ridiculous. Power mixed with the hand/eye skills you have to have to be able to do both of those things. I've never seen anything like it before or since. On top of it...wow, what a nice guy! :) He comes off like a super nice guy who is comfortable with making fun of himself. The best athlete of my lifetime. But I so hope I'm alive long enough to see someone give him a run :) i get the sense that Bo would like to see that too.

He is a nice guy. He lives about 3 minutes from me. A lot of people are intimidated by him and he really dislikes being in the middle of crowds. He can drop some rather colorful language. I met him at the Pappadeaux in Chicago and went to lunch with him a few times because my firm at the time did work with the bank he is President of…. He seems agitated when surrounded by people but actually very nice. Has a wonderful family. His daughter was Homecoming Queen and did very well in school. His wife wears the pants for sure. A lot of people say family means everything to them- but it really does to him. How many guys take their mom’s or mother-in-law out to eat on Friday or Saturday night… he did.
I don’t see him very often now. He shutdown his baseball academy I think and with his kids gone he supposedly travels more. He was very kind to me and very modest.

I had a pretty epic 3 game run as QB and SLB of our 7th grade A team the last 3 games of the season after my friend (starting QB) broke his arm skateboarding.

Sorry, that's not anywhere close to a raise. Secretariat still has the fastest time at the Kentucky Derby. As in ever.

Secretariat would have won that race by 13 lengths and almost 3 seconds. It's a great showing by Rich Strike but it's like saying Kirk Gibson's World Series home run makes him better than Babe Ruth. Nope.

Secretariat also holds the fastest ever record for the Preakness. Of course, he holds the Belmont record with a two second difference over the second place time, which in horse racing is not close. That Belmont race also gave him the Belmont record for largest victory at 31 lengths.

There has been no faster horse ever in any of the Triple Crown races and he did it in 1973, almost 50 years ago. Since then there have been fast horses and advances in horse nutrition, medicine, and training. But not one horse can touch Secretariat.

Sir, I hope you're not slighting Smarty Jones. He's the Bill Doran and Vernon Maxwell of horse racing in my mind :)

I was thinking more of a Muggsy Bogues, but I'll allow Smarty into the conversation.
