How much did the players cost for the deal now? even they were within reach last week!

    Is it worthy?

Stern can Huff and Puff all we wants, he either gives now on his own terms or the courts force the NBA to in mediation.

My guess is that the owners' last proposal (which actually was objectively reasonable from the standpoint of promoting competitive balance while still keeping player salaries stable) will relax some restrictions on the MLE and maybe some of the escrow language.

Funny thing is, the 10 days' worth of salary the players irretrievably lost by rejecting the owners' last offer will likely heavily outweigh the actual benefits derived from the few instances in which a guy gets most/all of the MLE from a tax-paying team during the life of the new CBA. Meanwhile, so long as the season starts by Christmas, the owners will have lost far less (proportionately) than the players during those same 10 days.

I hope the players are happy. "Standing up to Stern and those bully owners" cost them millions that they'll never get back. Had they simply accepted the last offer, ratified the new CBA, then anonymously taken out a full-page ad in the New York Times telling Stern to go "bleep" himself, they would be all the richer and already be in training camp.

I also hope the owners are happy. Had they just had the good sense to be DECENT to the players in their victory and treated them like grown men, perhaps the union wouldn't have been so riled up to cut off their own noses in retaliation.

Still, I'm encouraged by Fisher rejoining the talks. This obviously means that a level of trust has been re-established between the two sides such that the players no longer fear how this will hurt their antitrust claims.

Gotta agree with Wojo that this a very good sign that a deal is close. Before this weekend, only a disproportionately small amount of BRI was being lost. The REAL money goes out the window for the owners if they don't wise up and make a deal by early next week.

What's not being talked about? The 13-17 hardline owners that were reportedly unhappy happy with the last 50-50 proposal that the players rejected. There were reports that Stern didn't necessarily have the votes he needed to pass it even if the players went for it.

David Stern wants a deal. Miami, Dallas, LAL, and NYK never wanted to miss games in the first place. But they've been further and further out of step with half the owners. Leonsis has convinced well over a dozen owners to follow the NHL lockout model and flush the season for an epic win.

Reading the tweets from my man @Chris_Broussard, sounds like union heading into Friday's season-on-the-brink talks w/no shortage of ambition

Sources close to NBA talks insist that back-and-forth on specific tweaks has been scarce so far this week. Serious idea swapping starts FRI

Sense here is more league insiders than not believe deal is forthcoming by MON to start on Christmas. But we've heard that how many times?

    LOL, appreciate it man.

I just want this lockout to end badly! I hope the day comes when both sides shake hands and the lockout ends, which it doesn't seem like it will anytime soon. :(

I want my Rockets back!

Old guys like me have seen this movie before, the past is a good indicator of how it will end in the future.

They will get a deal and be playing by January....too much $$$$ to lose on both sides.

Well that's one brightside of losing the season then. You would more than likely never see those two guys in Rockets red again.

Meeting starts here at 11cst and will probably be a lengthy bargaining session of players demands. Broussards list of players demands were pretty lengthy so could be in for a long weekend of negotiations, but one major positive to take into account is that Stern and Hunter aren't in complete control today.
