Don't care. This is another serious deadline and there is a slim chance for something good to happen. That's enough for me right now.

We really have some liberal, activist judges if the courts are now requiring meditation. Freakin' Obama.

The thing is that at some point, calmer heads usually prevail, each side has played all their cards, and neither wants a 3rd party (The courts) to have the final say, they both would have too much to lose.

It is time to make a deal.

Why is that? Rumor had it Fisher was more prone to compromise than Hunter, who was the hardliner.

The CBS article I posted yesterday and on Friday night said that talks were going on secretly through "back channels" even as far as last weekend.

The article also said the Jim Quinn was a the mediator between Stern and Hunter and the reason why he is so effective is because he basically knows everyone in the league and has the ability to calm both sides down.

He was the same mediator who ended the lockout in 1999.

Here is the article from Friday

And here is the article from Tuesday

So why does it take until now to have this Jim Quinn guy involved? If he's so good, why didn't Stern and Hunter have him mediate from the getgo? smh @ the NBA and union.

Talks proceeding as "settlement" talks bc of pending litigation. Attorneys are in the lead. New CBA can't be adopted until union re-forms

I believe that Quinn was the union's attorney in 1999, not the mediator. The article said that Quinn's prior experience working with both Hunter (on the same side) and Stern (as an adversary) made him familiar with both sides and that Quinn was a voice of reason during the prior negotiations.
