Doesn't matter whether 47% is what they will discuss next, the question is whether the league will never discuss anything other than 47% going forward. I highly doubt that would be the case-- i.e. if the player offer a 50% deal with significant "systems" concessions 2 days from now, I can't imagine the league wouldn't have to at least think about it.

The more important thing is that NEITHER side may want to offer 50% any time soon while the decertification and law suit process go forward. It's not a matter of what they say their offer are now, but rather the sides are less willing to compromise.

Keyon Dooling on potential of losing season: "I'm an older guy, and I can't get a year back. But this is bigger than playing basketball..."

Former union officials and members say a show-of-hands vote was taken on disclaimer, and it was unanimous.

Hunter has yet to receive a call from David Stern regarding disclaimer letter. "It's never too late for David to call me," he said. Keep ...

Keep in mind, though: Any effort to jump in and out of union status would be frowned on by courts. Once you disclaim, it sticks.

I try to look at the glass half full, but it's damn hard with this mess of a situation. I am so upset about this right now, but maybe it'll be worth it in the long run. These owner didn't get rich on accident; They are business men. I hope they stick it to the players in court and get a fair system for all teams in the league. Hopefully a flex cap or even a hard cap will come out of this.

I still believe if offer was put to a rank-and-file vote, it would be shot down. Diverse cross section of players in union meeting today

When Stern comes out on his TV networks soon, expect him to strongly threaten the voiding of players contracts.

Man Dooling is a guy I admire.

Fighting for what is right, someone should make statues of these guys in every city.

But if the deal was put to rank and file and was shot down, it would send a stronger message to the ownership group.

Because right now, with Twitter, they are going to be watching a leaky dike....

And, I think the owners could simply end the lockout and put their own system in place and tell the players to get back to work.

    Now wouldn't THAT be interesting.

i hope all these owners lose every single penny of their fortunes that make nba players salaries look miniscule in comparison and spend the rest of their days in a government-run nursing home.

I honestly don't get it. I just don't get it.

Was the owners' latest proposal a great deal for the players? No.

Have Stern and the owners been a bunch of patronizing jerks to the players throughout this entire process? Yes.

But was the owners' latest proposal a REASONABLE one? YES!!!!!

Sure, there were a few items that, in all fairness, should have been tweaked in favor of the players, but overall, the proposal--which consisted of "A-list" issues only--was fairly decent in seeking to (a) limit player salaries in line with the commensurate reduction in the players' share of BRI, (b) protect the middle class, (c) preserve the max salary and (d) ensure more competitive balance.

For several of the player reps to not even KNOW what was in the proposal until this morning is absolutely sickening to me. No matter how these guys were elected (whether as a joke or not), they had a RESPONSIBILITY to their 12-14 constituents each to be knowledgeable about this proposal.

Should there have been a league-wide vote today? Actually, no. There were still too many issues (40-60 "B-list" issues) yet to be worked out before a league-wide vote would have made any sense.

But the player reps should have voted to either make a counter-proposal with only a few changes to the owners' proposal and/or just accept the proposal outright. They could then see how well they do in negotiations over the "B-list" issues, at which point they can either take a COMPLETE proposal to a league-wide vote or, if the owners continue to screw them over, just decertify/disclaim at THAT point.

If it is true that Hunter and Fisher allowed the "tone of the room" (remember, much of which was occupied by emotional guys who didn't even understand the proposal's terms) to color how they approached the meeting and their recommendations to the player reps--who could still vote however the hell they wanted--then I will have lost so much respect for those two. I actually do have great respect for Fisher, so this would be a crushing blow to my estimation of the man.

Bottom line: The union . . . er, trade association screwed up big time today. This was an emotional response by emotional people upset over getting an even worse deal than they had anticipated. This was NOT a smart decision, and the 30+ guys in that room may have doomed countless colleagues to financial ruin and the end of their careers.

I hope they're as happy in a few months as they seemed to be right before the press conference.

As least when Stern is being a jackass, there's a purpose to it that furthers his agenda. No such thing exists in this instance for the players.

Sure, all contracts require a working union, they sure could...and that would be awesome !!!

If this is going to melt down, take it all the way to the ground baby.

Uh, actually, no it isn't. He just admitted to taking the negotiations personally. Big mistake. These guys need to remember what they've always spouted whenever they were ask about signing with another team - "it's a business".

I've been saying all off-season that the owners were going to win big, but it's looking like the owners are going to get so much power back that it fundamentally changes the league, almost to something unrecognizable and that something is parity.
