League is peddling information that no team will be over the tax line late in the CBA. That is interesting. Rolling that around in my head

So many of the system issues that have everyone outraged impact a small amount of players. But its the principle. Owners did not budge.

In the end, players will still be rich people. But less will be able to count on that one "life-changing" contract many enjoyed in 2000s.

    MikeWellsNBA Mike Wells
@HowardBeckNYT @powellshaun Part of the prob is, like @sam_amick i'm hearing from players who aren't getting all the info from player reps

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
To folo up @MikeWellsNBA tweet: agent yesterday said he's utterly frustrated w/lack of info coming from @TheNBPA. Had yet to see NBA offer

If union wants players/agents to be able to make intelligent decision on NBA proposal, it needs to distribute full, detailed offe

One man's lockout PREDICTION: Billy Hunter meets w/player reps then says union will hold full vote IF NBA first makes three TBA deal tweaks

    ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
What I know for sure: David Stern didn't arbitrarily arrive at 72-game offer. To have a season, I'm told, Stern insists on at least 70 games

    ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
League VERY unhappy w/50-game sked in '99. Sources say Stern has conveyed to union deal must come soon so 2011-12 game count can start w/a 7

    ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
Decertification update? Their plan called for using FRI to tally up signatures w/view toward filing petition Monday w/NLRB for decert VOTE

    ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
Just heard two more wrinkles in NBA's offer. No. 1: Teams can only add total of $3 mil per SEASON in trades. Previous max: $3M per DEAL

    ESPNSteinLine Marc Stein
New wrinkle No. 2: Teams would only have 3 days to match offer sheets to restricted FAs like Marc Gasol/Arron Afflalo. Previously had 7 days

Why Monday? Why can't they meet today or Sunday? Why? Do they need to catch up with Saturday cartoon or what?

Probably checking their bank accounts to save how much longer they can prolong this.

All this lockout has shown us fans is that there are a lot of idiots in top positions all throughout the union. Including team reps and agents. Shameful.

Shaun Powell of NBA.com reports that a majority of "rank-and-file" NBA players would vote to accept the owners' current CBA proposal, should it come to an up-or-down vote.
Each NBA team has player representatives, who are well-versed in the details of the CBA, and who are on the whole more reluctant to accept an unfavorable offer. Most players, though, are simply biding their time until the season starts, and seem unfazed by losing a percentage point of BRI or accepting harsh luxury-tax measures.

Scola just wants to get a vote:

The NBPA turned down the owners' proposal, why don't we all get to vote?

New offer from the NBA to the players, will we get to vote this time?

The players should be contacting their reps......the Reps should be representing what the majority of their teamates want to do.

    Put it to a vote....

Beyond player reps, there'll be many more players coming for Monday meeting. Confusion's ruling day, cause so few know details of NBA offer.

Amazing the ability of the NBA to pit the public against its players to simply accept take-it-or-leave-it proclamations.

This is Stern's playbook. If you're the players, you have to forget PR war because it isn't winnable. Accept or reject deal on its merits.

As @alanhahn notes, players are going nuts over this D-League rule that is not even in the official proposal on the table now.

    Thanks for the updates.

    Keep'em coming.

I honestly think if they let all players vote, we'd get a season. It's the big $$$ players and agents who're screwing this up.

It seems like Hunter is worried that the players might actually accept this deal.

What is scary is most of the players haven't even seen the proposal yet.

Stop talking about the D-League thing. It wasn't in the proposal. There's a different D-League proposal forthcoming w/ major issues solved.

    sam_amick Sam Amick
That D-League story is Exhibit A of why detailed proposal should've been shared immediately. Players/agents didn't know if real or not.

    sam_amick Sam Amick
It was 1 of litany of B-list issues discussed but not in proposal. Still, league even pitching it widely seen as middle finger to players.

Frankly, I don't understand HOW the players could hold a full vote of this proposal. There are 50-60 "B-list" issues that have yet to be resolved and aren't even in the owners' official proposal.

The next step is for the player reps to vote on whether to agree to the "A-list" issues in the proposal, at which point Hunter, Fisher and the rest of the executive committee can iron out all of the "B-list" issues with Stern, Silver, Holt and the labor relations committee.

Only THEN can a real vote of the players be held. At least, that's the only approach that makes any sense to me. To hold two separate full votes would only further delay a deal getting done.

N.B.A. Players Weigh Legitimacy of Latest Ultimatum

According to league and union officials, the revised offer on the table includes the following improvements:

¶ The midlevel exception for tax-paying teams would be worth $3 million, with a maximum three-year contract, and could be used annually. (The league had proposed $2.5 million, with a two-year maximum, for use every other year.)

¶ A new exception, worth $2.5 million, for up to two years, was created for teams that are just below the cap (i.e. with less than $2.5 million of cap room).

¶ Taxpaying teams would retain the right to conduct sign-and-trade deals in the first two years of the agreement, but would be banned from doing so starting in the third year. Previously, the league proposed banning them immediately.

¶ The minimum team salary would be set at 85 percent of the cap, and increase to 90 percent in the third year of the deal.

¶ Players signed using so-called Bird rights would get 6.5 percent annual raises, up from 5.5 percent in the prior offer.

¶ Players who sign contracts below the average salary would be eligible for opt-out clauses (which are otherwise banned, except in limited situations).

¶ The 10-year labor deal would include a mutual opt-out after the sixth year — at the union’s request — instead of the seventh.

I hope the rank and file players decide to press Billy Hunter and Derek Fischer. It seems like there are competing agendas going on and the players are being left out in the dark.

Those players are our only hope it seems.

If the player reps do their job which is polling their team members I think we get a deal. Even most of the player reps are not high profile guys.
