They already are and have been.

I know most are pro-owners and I have been as well but at some point they have to bench the starters and put in players 6-10. At some point they have to hand the players a bone if they expect a deal to get done because the players are being stubborn.

I agree throw them a bone. The owners already have the cake and eatin it too. Why not throw them a lil frosting so they can say they got something. Seems like a pretty one sided deal but with that being said I can completely understand where the owners are coming from.

If they don't accept it, that means not enough pain has gone along.....and the players need to start missing more paychecks....

The owners should tell the players this is their final offer and stick to it.

Why in the world would the league throw something new and ridiculous like this on the table at the 12th hour? It looks at first blush like a poison pill designed to make sure the Union doesn't accept the offer.

Hearing d league rule may no longer be part of league's official proposal. Def was at some recent point.

Just that the union are not going to agree with anything when they can't tell the rest of the players they won in anything.

The owners are just hammering away at them, the NFLPA did get a bone thrown their way and eventually got a deal done.

If done correctly, I could see this being a decent option. Sort like in MLB in which if you sign another teams good FA, you give them that years pick (as in if you sign the best free agent from a team in 2011 you have to give your 2011 pick to that team) or something close to it (for teams who lost a veteran in FA to have an extra draft pick with order decided on price of contract signed. Have teams decide if they want that round to be after the initial lottery picks or after the entire 1st round).

Pacers player rep Danny Granger said early indications are that the league's latest offer will be rejected by the NBPA.

    MikeWellsNBA Mike Wells
Granger: "From what I've seen and heard, the counter offer is the same they presented us a week ago, making a few minor changes...

    MikeWellsNBA Mike Wells
Granger cont: "that in the big scheme of things that really did nothing to the deal."

    MikeWellsNBA Mike Wells
More Granger: "I would expect that proposal to be rejected after all the players learn more about the deal. The next step I don't know."

I like the idea of 2 1st round draft picks to encourage balance. They would need to do something about the rookie contracts, though. It would be another incentive for cheap owners to be more like Sterling and live off cheap rookie contracts and not invest in the team. It's not like they would be giving a team 2 LBJ or 2 Durant, if a lottery team got another pick after the 1st 13 picks.

If they can shorten the rookie contracts or provide early opt outs, then it would not be as profitable to go to the lottery every year. They reduce the years on a rookie contract to 2 yrs with player options for the 3rd/4th yr. A player option to become a free agent, if they meet certain criteria(top 3 in ROY votes, all-star selection, plays more than 20 min).

No they haven't because they still don't realize their weak position. Chopping the players BRI down to 47% or 43% (depending how long it takes to reach an agreement and if the season is cancelled) will just about do it.

The players are on an elevator going down and they won't get off because it isn't high enough. This is the main reason I've turned on them so hard. If we end up with a 50-game season or no season at all, the players need to get pulverized.

The inefficiency in communication and organization from the players at such a dire time is astounding to me.

    sam_amick Sam Amick
I'm consistently hearing about player reps who don't contact/inform teammates, agents are scrambling for info on where things stand. Unreal.

    sam_amick Sam Amick
It is the No. 1 reason I have called for a vote before, or at least informal, internal poll that is far more comprehensive and league-wide.

There has to be a better way to bridge the gap between experts in the union & the ones they represent.

If that onerous NBDL demotion provision is truly in the proposed deal, how can you not be on the players side? That would most certainly come under the heading of "not negotiating in good faith"; it is the most diabolical thing I've seen since the reserve clause. It basically opens the door to non-guaranteed contracts with no signing bonuses to make up for it and allows owners to unilaterally impose fines on their players by repeatedly sending them down for no reason.

Furthermore, imagine this scenario with a new draftee; after they've completed their 4th year, the team gives them a qualifying offer, and a lowball contract extension. Then the GM goes to the player's agent and says: sign the extension, or we're burying you in the D-League next year. It will cost us nothing, but it will waste a year of your client's prime, and your agent fee gets cut roughly 300%.

Honestly, the players should be jumping at the bit to give back money in exchange for freedom of movement. Take a page out of baseball's book, in that there is no guarantee of minimum player salaries, but that the natural market forces will continue to escalate salaries over time.

This new NBDL provision that hasn't been mentioned before surprises me. It should be removed. I doubt it's a sticking point with the owners.
