Union needs to grow some balls. Just walk in and offer them 47% or nothing, then walk out. Then say if they cancel any further games it will go down to 45%. Give Stern and the owners an ultimatum for once. They need to take control of these so called negotiations.

The owners arent the ones moving back in with their parents... The players simply don't have the resources to outlast the owners...

I buy it because this is the only time small market teams have a say-so and they are maximizing their leverage. Once a deal is done, they have to shut up until the next CBA. Plus, they all know Stern is gone within a couple of years at the most.

"Y! Sources: Stern has enough ownership support to "tweak" system issues to try and get labor deal done today."

NBA working on getting some owners to fly in for last ditch meeting with union today, source said.

    Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Statement from Jeffrey Kessler, outside counsel for Players Union, regarding his comments in Washington Post (coming in next tweet)

    Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
"The comments that I made in The Washington Post took place in an interview late at night Monday after a very long day. Looking back, the

    Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
words that I used were inappropriate; I did not intend to offend. I was merely passionately advocating for the players. I intend to call

    Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Commissioner Stern and offer my apologies for the remarks. It is very important that there be no distractions now and that the parties try

    Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
to make a deal to save the season." - Jeffrey Kessler, union lawyer

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
As of last night, labor committee chairman Peter Holt was preparing to fly to NY for potential meeting today, source says.

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
Possible meeeting in planning stages, though nothing set yet.

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
Spoke with union attorney Jeff Kessler, who says he's "sorry" about his plantation worker comment and that it was "inappropriate."

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
Kessler: "I did not intend to make any statement that would be interpreted as a suggestion of any type of racial issue.

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
Story upcoming @CBSSports with Kessler's comments, and with my conclusion that he should be fired as the @TheNBPA's lead negotiator.

    WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski
Best part of NBPA attorney Kessler's apology for "plantation" quote: "I did not intend to offend." Yes, he was looking to lighten things up.

    WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski
Kessler enraged officials on union and ownership sides with those words. NBPA would be wise to keep him out of the negotiating room today.

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
Summing up the labor talks: Players signal they will take NBA's 50-50 deal, conditioned on league backing off of certain "system" changes

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
Owners' calculus is now this: Is it worth losing season to ban taxpaying teams from sign-and-trades and full midlevel exceptions? That's it.

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
The other outstanding system issues -- dealing with luxury tax, escrow tax, etc -- can be adjusted. Players want to ensure free-agent market

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
Players' offer to reduce their share from 57% to 50% is a more than $3 billion concession over a 10-year deal.

    WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski
Many keep asking about "one-and-done" draft rule. It's on B-list of issues they'll get to once/if economic-system points are agreed on.

    HowardBeckNYT Howard Beck
So two questions for today: Do owners reject that offer anyway? If they accept it, do the agents try to kill deal with decertification?

    WojYahooNBA Adrian Wojnarowski
As one GM told me: "The age limit is a much bigger issue for the commissioner and owners than it is for (basketball executives)."

    sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
Info I'd love to find out: would Jeffrey Kessler's law firm make millions if NBAPA decertifies? If so his sabotage routine makes more sense.

    sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
Also: do players fully realize that Stern only controls a majority vote by owners for less than 8 more hrs? Today is D-Day by ALL accounts.

    sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
For umpteenth time: why couldn't owners/players agree to a temp 2-yr deal just to save season + split diff on every outstanding issue?

    sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
PS: 13 owners WANT to screw over the players + cancel the season. Only takes 2 more to flip vote. Again today is D-Day. I am really worried.

    sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
99.9999% sure your 13 dissenting NBA teams are Cha, Mil, Ind, Cle, Min, Por, OKC, Mem, Sac, Phx, Phi, Atl + Utah. 2 more votes = no season.

    sportsguy33 Bill Simmons
Dissenting owner update: looks like Wash/Den are "no" votes and Cle/Phx are with Stern. Still digging for 100% official list of the 13 no's.

League and union negotiators will meet at 1 p.m. in Manhattan, source says.

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
It will be a small-group meeting, about five people on each side.

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
It is believed that Spurs owner Peter Holt will join Stern, Silver and high-ranking NBA legal staff.

    KBergCBS Ken Berger
Union economist Kevin Murphy is flying in to join Hunter, Fisher and union lawyers -- presumably including Jeffrey Kessler.

Slightly surprised that Simmons of all folks would miss on that list - the dual NBA/NHL owners are definitely hardliners that want to tank the season, which includes Was + Den. Toronto also. I'd be surprised if OKC was voting no - they're in the black.

John Lucas' All Star game in Hou, in works since Sept, is a go for Nov. 20, if no NBA deal. Blake, LeBron, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul to play.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, David Stern has received authority to make "minor system alterations" to the league's latest labor offer in an effort to end the lockout.

Disappointing part of this is that the BRI stuff is the part that's not really relevant to fans. The system issue changes are the ones that benefit the fans and the league competitiveness, and those are the things that seem to be on the chopping block.

S&T deals shouldn't exist at all, taxpayer or not - they completely remove the ability of those smaller market teams to retain their star talent because players can get their money AND choose their team. MLEs should be restricted or removed entirely on teams that are way over the cap. Those two things would immensely help level the playing field.

I thought the hardline owners were against an even 50/50 BRI split?

Though reports are out that Stern has enough votes from owners on a 50/50 split.

We shall wait and see I guess.
