i don't think you understand that there are quite a few owners who are just fine with that. who are taking the long view of this, and aren't as short sighted. for players, this will become a cash flow issue...not for owners.

Who cares if they're fine with that? The brand of the NBA will take a hit if the season is cancelled completely. And that's where the owners get their money: ticket sales, TV ratings, TV ads...

And I hope people stop bringing up the NHL as a model the NBA should look after. That league is irrelevant.

It's not irrelevant with respect to labor issues. It's a model regardless of its size relative to the NBA.

Look, at the end of the day, there is a high probability that the season is over. It doesn't matter which side we are on.

Time for all of us to wrap around this reality and move on. Both sides don't want a season, ok then.

If you look at it that way, fine. But the players will end up with a worse deal than what was offered Saturday. Their short-sightedness of their union leadership will be the reason (1) the players get a worse deal, (2) lose a season's worth of salary and (3) the fans miss a season of NBA basketball.

"Both sides don't want a season"? Where do you get that from? Makes no sense at all.

There are more than a few owners who are willing to risk the season to get the best deal they want.

And the players are not going to accept 52% or lower. And they have been saying after they dropped from 54%, which has been months ago.

And reality is upon us: there will be no season.

The majority of players want a season. Their stupid union leaders do also. The problem is the dumb union leaders are (1) too proud to acknowledge what it takes to get that done and (2) too ignorant to realize time is NOT on their side.

BTW, the union just offered 51%. Too bad they didn't do it a month ago. Pure incompetence.

51% is not 50%. With these hard-ass owners, even if the players offer 50% now, they probably want to drill it down lower.

The owners want a season. They just want a profitable season.

As I hear from players, I will be surprised if there isn't some kind of membership push to take NBA's offer. How big of one? Still unknown

They need to take the deal

Based on what? The threat of decertification? Please. Even if the players vote to bring up decertification as a vote the NLRB is doubtful to let them vote with an outstanding claim. And if they do let them vote, do you really believe 50% of the players are going to vote to decertify and lose a seasons worth of pay?

Heck the only reason the union won't bring it to a vote now is because the proposal would pass.

Do you not think the owners have thought out every possible scenario and know they hold the cards?

What based on any of the negotiations so far makes you think the owners are going to budge and move of their position? Sounds more like wishful thinking on your part.

If holding their ground is mostly about principle they will De-certify.

If players as a majority just want to get paid regardless of long term effects they will take the current deal.

Vets , All-Stars and guys that where smart enough to take foreign deals over seas are willing to bleed for the good of the long term.

But those guys make up maybe 100 players and that is overstating it maybe by 20 players.

You still have 300+ Mid level and lower guys who would be willing to push the current deal through even though It forces free agents to sign where the money is no matter what city it is in GASP (even Minnesota, Milwaukee and Charlotte)

Explain to the rest of us what you mean by, "want to get paid regardless of long term effects...". Both the near and long term effects will get WORSE, not better for the players. They will not get a better deal later.
