In the event of a military draft, what would you do?

Sleep with all the young women, now that all the available men are drafted, gay, old or disabled.

I've always been a HUGE advocate for sending death row inmates and those sentenced to life in prison to fight our battles for us. That way it really doesn't matter, they're all expendable.

Which is why I like the trailer for GAMER so much, it's brilliant. Yeah yeah, ethics ethics. I don't have any, so I have no qualms with the idea :)

How does someone who's been here for 9 years post this in the Hangout forum?

    Amazing.

Dude, we just attacked Iraqi to stop their production of WMD's. No telling how many lives GWB saved with this preemptive act.

    Agree.

    Yes it is!

I protested the war in Vietnam and remember the draft very well. No one in their right mind would want to ditch our fine volunteer military for a return to that madness. I'm too old to be in any sort of draft, but I have a son who's about to turn 18 (tomorrow) and I sure as hell would do whatever I could to keep him out of a draft. Whatever he wanted, I'd support and pay for. If he wanted to volunteer for service in our military, that would be his choice, but if he wanted to leave the country to avoid a draft, I would pay for him to do that and would seriously consider moving the entire family to join him.

What a stupid idea and definitely not a subject for this forum.

Do what guys like me did in the 60's. Join the band. You're in the military but you avoid combat.

I can remember when I was around 12 or so getting in a fight with my stepsister and having her say, "I can't wait until you're 18 and go to Vietnam and die!"

    Ah, those were the days.

I'd want to serve, but I'm about positive they wouldn't let me because of my back.

It's not a stupid idea -- it's interesting and could be discussed here, but perhaps it would be better served in the D&D.

If the US had a true conflict deserving of a mandatory draft I hope you would proudly support your son's enlistment and service.

I would serve. They might not take though as I'm pushing the upper age limit.

If it was such a "stupid" idea then why did you bother to weigh in with your opinion?

The question was simple and vanilla. It's pretty easy to provide an answer without including your political thoughts and your opinions concerning our government. If that can be avoided then the Hangout is the correct forum for this topic.

    Carry on.
