In Retrospect: Why did we sign Ariza?

?

What was the reasoning behind signing Ariza?

  1. We needed an SF after Artest left, and any player at the position would be satisfactory

Stromile was traded multiple times after he was traded from the rockets. Those contracts are easy, very easy to trade. Much easier than the 7m shane possess.Basically, u could trade trevor for a 4m contract in any combination. It could be 2-2m contracts. Diop was traded in the same season he signed the mle for dallas. It could be any combination of players and any team that gets trevor knows he can play effective when he has better players to play off of and he's 24. You make it seem like mle is the end of the world or something.

Not at all, but it still counts against the cap, and right now, he has a negative cap hold, IMO.

shane makes 1m more and has done 0. The talk before the season was he would as other would have to do more. Guess what, he hasn't and he's old and slower. Like i've said, i understand the cap and lt and we're talking about 4m in contracts vs 5m which is what we would have to get back minimum. Neither are huge numbers, but i bet trevor has a higher trade value than shane.

Decent centers are rare, so the trade value of 7 ft busts are inflated.

There are many decent swingmen though, so a MLE swignman bust doesn't have any value.

Shane is slowing down hut he only has 1 year left, and he is still better than Trevor.

Trevors contract will go up to nearly 7 next year as the cap goes down it will get harder and harder to trade him if he does not significantly improve. He can't even dribble leeb.

The only keeper we have at the wing spot is Caspudinger.

    We should cut loss now.
You can see NY find difficulty to trade Jared Jeffries this year.
Ariza will become next Jeffries if we dont trade him asap...

Look at the contract again, I believe it's over 5mill this year and gets over 7mill. That's close to a Cato type contract.

Neither can shane and he's 31. His contract goes up marginally every year, but its still a easy to trade contract.
