I'll know after seeing Yao play. After thinking about it a couple weeks and seeing the comments here, we have all the elements to win now if Yao can have a special season. We have solid supporting players who are all about winning (Luis, Lowry, Battier, Chuck, etc..) On offense, we have the unguardable player and offensive options when he gets tired (Brooks/Martin). The problem with the Cavaliers/Heat last year was that their stars ran out of gas. In playoff basketball, the load needs to be shared. On defense, we have the wing defenders, the wall in the middle, and the scrappy point guard defender. If Yao is only a shell of himself, I don't believe we will a championship in the next 5-6 years as it would be hard to part with Yao and he would consume the majority of our salary cap.

With Yao healthy i think we're just as good as any team in the league. Why? Because if we get him the ball in the right place NOBODY can stop us. Plus he hits his free throws. Remember we have better shooters surrounding Yao, so there is no way teams will be able to double team
We can't sign Melo or CP3 since they aren't FAs, but you're right that it would require assets to do so. As far as getting a semi star, I doubt we'll have any assets left over to do that without leaving some gaping holes in the rotation. I think you should read more before starting another thread to make sure you actually have an original thread topic, and so that it sounds like you know what you're talking about.
