That's true its always the hardest for the first of any group to crack a barrier, just ask Hillary Clinton. That said I still think things will change slowly and while Barack Obama is an exceptional individual it will be a while before attitudes change.
I agree with the general spirit of this thread. I voted for Obama for many reasons. I think he's the most progressive candidate that I've ever seen in my lifetime. He proved that in a world full of cynicism, ideas are still important and still matter. I also felt that the alternative was so bad that I had to vote for Barack. I am, however, cautious about what type of change he will actually bring. Even though he's got popular support and a democratically controlled congress, politics in America brings candidates to the center so radical change is less likely. Hopefully, I'm wrong on the last point. As Richard Haas, head of the CFR, mentioned candidates campaign in black and white, but they govern in gray. Initially, I would like to see at least some of Obama's rhetoric backed by actions, which would make me have more faith in his abilities to deliver. With all that said, no matter who you are and what your positions are, nobody can deny how historic this moment is.
Your a great American....Sean Hannity I was just kidding, but you this is what make politics fun, when we can all come together after wards.
Am I the only person that forgot to save their voting slip or registration card or something from this historic election?
As far as mixed folks being black or white or asian or whatever...I'm not mixed so I can't (and am not) trying to tell anyone how to view themselves....just answering the question of "Why is he black". As far as how others in AMERICA view you, assuming they haven't heard you talk or know nothing about you, they usually will view you as black if you look like ya got some black in ya. If anyone that is mixed does not feel like they "are black", I challenge you to go to a restaurant in Vidor by yourself at night, or go to a Klan meeting, etc. You will find out how black you are very quickly. Again, you are justified to classify yourself however you feel is best....but when folks look at you they see black. I'm sure Obama would be called a ni&&er in Vidor just like any other colored person....
Well, considering that it's taken hundreds of years to get this far, a while might not be that long relatively speaking.
If more people thought like you, then it'd be likely that we'd have a minority and a woman president sooner.
