In all seriousness, Brian Cook could be the X Factor

I'll try it for a couple of plays sub him in the last 2 minutes before the half or the end of the 3rd, this fronting is calling for drastic measures, nothing RA has done has worked, I just suggest trying it when we have the lead of course

True, let's just hope we don't have to depend on Cook in a crucial game.

I will say this though he jacks up stupid shots in garbage time, but he would not do that in a close game.

It's not as crazy as it sounds - random things get tried in playoff series' all the time.

    Ryan Bowen anyone?

He doubled his minutes in the playoffs in '05 as a 'defensive matchup' for Nowitzki didn't he?

Because you're in a real struggle against only one other team, it's easier to try something different, kind of the unexpected ploy.

Having said all that, I'd almost rather play smaller with Ming as our only big when they go to the twin towers. Run with Brooks, Wafer, Artest, Battier and Ming as our lineup, switch on screens to stop them driving and force Pryzbilla to beat us from the post!

You know the 6ers did it with Marshall and the OP is right...

If Cook is on the floor with Yao no one's going to double Yao...Cook may actually be the solution to this and the only way we know is if he tries.

Plus this is Adelman's fault, we had Cook for half the season yet NEVER tried it out. Despite knowing all this time fronting has killed our team...we never ONCE tried this as a solution...it's rather foolish since NOTHING else has worked.

All I know is if we lose this series, Adelman should be done here.

Not a bad idea for about 10-15 mpg. It's a good idea to have a 4 out there that spreads the floor, especially when Portland goes real big on their frontline.

Cook can shoot a bit but he can't defend IMO. 5-6 mins max for him if nothing else is working.

Thanks for the replies. I just thought it would be a good post to debate about in light of the terrible news we've received over the past days about Dikembe's injury.

Whether the Rox use Cook or not, WIN THIS FOR DEKE!

Those people throwing this off a joke clearly have no idea about the game. I'm not saying we should suddenly try it out now in the playoffs but I like others am amazed it was never tested during the regular season. As terrible as he is he can shoot the 3 ball and has enough size that hes not going to get killed on defense by a terrible offensive player like pastywhiteflopzilla.

I would of loved to see this tested at some stage... it forces someone to go out to him because he will hit the majority of his open 3's... if you say complete the lineup with AB, Wafer, Ron/Shane you have 4 legit three point threats outside with Yao most likely one on one. So if the double comes you got a decent 3 point shooter open somewhere to hit down the 3. It also spaces allowing AB and Wafer to use their most likely superior speed to blow past their defender to either getting a basket or drawing Yaos defender and getting an easy assist to the big fella. It may not work but still I would like to know why it was never tried.

If he's guarding Pryz, then it really doesn't matter, it just depends on if he can box out or not.

After the Rockets win the series, can we activate someone to take Deke's spot? Dorsey?
