I mean ariza rejected a meeting with the rockets from the beginning. he wasn't going to turn down that money from phoenix knowing he'd have to play at value once again.

Google luxury tax effects on owners. Tillman is a very poor owner who doesn’t have much money if you take into account value of rockets. He’s paying 2x on that extra 10 million a year for Paul and it 100% affects his signings / lack of. It’s not a dan Gilbert all in situation at all despite hardens historic year.

It is about the hit he’s taking on his profit margins that prevents aggressive acquisitions. What is so hard to understand about that?

Morey told Ariza before the offseason began they didn't think would keep him. Ariza knew the Rockets wanted him to play for "value" because of luxury tax concerns. if they didn't have luxury tax issues they would have just matched the stupid contract from PHX and kept him. The reason they told him they wouldn't keep him was because they knew the situation with the tax and knew it would be ridiculous to pay him what the market was going to produce.

They made the right call there obviously, but luxury tax concerns did factor in.

It’s not about being under the cap, it’s about Tillman taking a hit and it affecting the rockets ability to bring in players. Arica, house, Gasol etc. not fa signings, but via trade , resigning etc. Learn to see big picture.

But, what did Harden want? That's pretty important.

I think we can all assume that Paul was willing to be traded to the Rockets with the understanding that he would get max dollars. I think Morey and Harden both wanted Paul at any cost. The Rockets and Morey would look really bad if they reneged on this "agreement."

My guess is that Harden wanted Paul to get that contract. A deal is a deal. What's right is right.

What is done is done. Now we just have to make the best of it.

and the rockets would still have luxury tax issues, regardless if cp3 played for $10 mil less for example. Does that really mean the rockets would of payed ariza $15 mil, I'm not so sure about that. Especially judging morey's track record on role players and their value.

so in reality it is about being under the cap. the rest of the "big picture" reference as you say isn't really saying much. you even threw gasol in there for some odd reason

    Quit the unfounded/ridiculous whining...

We have zero chance of taking down the GS dynasty without CP3. Many seem to have forgotten last year.

He's needed on and off the court.

We still have time to pull it together.

    Chill out.

    Here. I explain for you.

    Gasol cost 23 million.

    Knight + Chriss 18.5 million.

You can make trade, but pay extra 10 million you could afford if Paul signed for mArket. But now Tillman wants some profit and knows he can’t take that on in addition to Paul’s extra 10 million.

Think like the owner, not his driver

Bc memphis is going to trade knight and chriss for gasol? please tell me you really didn't just bring up that delusional scenario. Chriss doesn't even belong in the nba and knight can still barely walk.

    Think logically not in fantasy

it’s about overpaying a guy who has made over 200 million in his career, couldn’t do anything as a #1 option, claims he wanted to win, then sabotaged a team giving him the chance to do so. The opposite of a champion like Duncan.

please man. Be serious here. Memphis isn't willing to trade Gasol for Knight+Chriss. If they were Morey would probably do it even though Gasol isn't the fit for what we need.

Feigen has already reported the Rockets are willing to add salary at the trade deadline.

That is only the money part, not the picks. Gasol can easily be had considering Memphis will not resign him, they are already on the way to rebuilding. Late firsts will do it.

I love this post, despite the harsh reality at the end.
