defensively, we'll be leagues better. ppl don't understand how important a rim protector is and how much he deters ppl from paint action. it doesn't show in the stats how truly integral a shot blocking big man is
Mad max, for the record, I am for a complete firesale and tanking. So is morey. To distill your view down then, you have a problem with Les Alexander, not Morey. Im confident that morey has had multiple candid conversations to try to convince les to tank. It didn't work. Moreys options are to execute his marching orders the best he can, or quit. If the trade goes down and we get nene, how do you view us in the western conf? Same question to all that read and replied. Does anyont think we are not in the four to six seed range?
1. Completely agree! I've said Morey is a victim in this...that he's being hamstrung. 2. I have no idea how to view us because I don't know who plays wing for this team. I think it probably makes us marginally better, but not a championship contender. Six seed does not excite me.
To all - how would you compare a gasol nene team to the rockets team that knocked off the blazers. That team was fun as hell to watch and had a punchers chance of knocking off LA had yao not gotten hurt. If we add gasol and nene, keep lee and pat pat, and add productive winf player as a FA, I think we have a punchers chance again. Something I'm happy to watch and root for.
can anyone answer this? I think it's a good question. The OP hass a great bit of analysis but it does conflate macro and micro, assuming that the current (foiled) plan was the only near-term trade possible. I've been heavily reviewing stats, and Pau is truly amazing, over the last 3 years. On paper, in the regular season, he's been one of the most influential players in the league, up there with Lebron in terms of WS/minute and stuff like that. So Pau reeks of a Morey superstar fantasy.
I actually think this is win win, let's say we get Gasol and everyone else sucks and the team as a whole sucks, thats not a bad thing because Gasol will be under contract and we will be a lottery team in a great draft year.
Martin + Scola is better than Pau Gasol. All the other bad reasons for the trade are periphery. Pau doesn't make us better.
Pau and Nene = 7 or 8 seed. 6 if we are lucky. That's the worst place to live in the NBA. With out a superstar, you don't get out of that rut. Hakeem gets you out of that rut. Nene doesn't.
I hate Pau Gasol...and I don't understand how any season ticket holder would give a rats ass to root for him vs Scola. The trade is no good. Pau, imo, is one of the most overrated players in the league...he has proven time and time again that he is not a player you can build around...never won a single playoff GAME (not series, g a m e) until he become the robin to Kobe. I don't understand. I don't understand Morey's thinking about this trade. It's almost like he is making a trade just to make one. Pau? pffft!! That's my "micro" view.
Two bigs like Pau & Nene will bring excitement and give us a chance to compete. As the Lakers get smaller and Mavs get smaller, we will rise with Memphis and OKC with strong quality bigs to man the middle AND who can score. Morey can then work his magic for smaller players and we will finally get a chance IN the Playoffs rather than OUT!

I have to admit, I kinda can't stand Pau Gasol and his feminine hair tucking at the free throw line, and his throat beard, and him generally. But, it's about the W's and it's not like we're adding karl Malone, Matt Harpring, or any of those Jazzholes. so, I'm for the trade.
