The original post was not asking if impeachment was warranted, he was asking if there was a way to trade impeachment for actual things on the Democratic agenda.

Yes it was hypothetical but its not like Democrats have not done it before.

By "impeachment proceedings", I took that to mean the impeachment inquiry.

Yep, but I personally think there is already enough to impeach - and today he basically asked the Ukraine and China to investigate Biden.

The guy is a loose cannon and doesn't care about the Constitution....get to Impeaching him.

From your poll, I think we can safely conclude that 22.7% of this BBS is in denial of reality.

The House impeachment inquiry should move public opinion to be more in favor of impeaching Trump. This shift in public opinion is needed if there is any chance of a Senate conviction or any chance of having a meaningful Senate vote. There is almost no chance that the Senate votes to convict, but there is a chance that for Senate Republican defections (who will certainly get primaried for their vote). Those Republican Senators in blue or purple states who do not vote for conviction should be in serious re-election troubles from a Democratic opponent. Damn if they do and damn if they don't.

A shift in public opinion polls for impeachment should also deep six Trump's already-in-trouble re-election. A top of the ticket nose dive in 2020 hurts all would be competitive Congressional races.

The inquiry has yet to start and Trump has already started throwing public temper tantrums. This will only get worse.

I am all for slowly cooking trump's goose.

I don't think it can go too long - I think he needs to be swift, facts based and on record......needs to be done by EOY so as not to bleed into next year's elections where the lying whiner in chief can't complain about TDS - when he is the one breaking the laws.

To be fair, they just want a reality where his crimes are "crimes" and just procedural details. And deeper than that, they probably just want to skew reality to a place where their guy and their team doesn't really have to play by constitutional rules at all, (and liberals can be jailed or somehow shut permanently up.)

But it’s such a satisfying anger and completely worth it.

Won't be, in any way, for anybody. I can't really get my head around how ugly the fallout of all this will be, wherever it ends.

Public fund isn’t literally that. POTUS job is a public function with lawful and ethical boundaries. You are "bargaining" away those boundaries. Yes, you could in theory make it work for short term gain, but the long term effect --- well, see the GOP, who have essentially bargain away their moral and duty for short term gains. That's not a boat I want to get on.

His punishment --- well, i'm guessing here, but his mind and ego probably is experiencing much pain. I, however, don't care for that. I rather think ... the punishment to all of us and the nation for not impeaching for impeachable offense is that they are no longer impeachable offense.

You never touch on the benefits for actual citizens in this bargain how do you put a price moral duty as opposed to piece of mind for non deportation and other things?

I honestly don't know - the more that is uncovered, the more America starts to get in favor of removal - I think the Republicans will NOT move unless they see the Country is in favor of it.

He will be Impeached in the House - and the Senate might do their job, or they might just brush it aside - they are the wildcard in this, I do take heart in hearing Senator Flake saying if it was a private vote 30+ Republicans would vote to Impeach.

So, they are hanging on for their political lives......if the wind blows in the country towards favoring impeachment there is a chance.....

But if I had to guess today - No, not removed but perhaps Censured.
