exactly, but the Macy's job still pays minimum wage so the lack of illegals isn't helping that market and it wouldn't help the mowing market because the salary is based on skill
Does Macy's not pay more than McDonald's or other min wage jobs? That just seems so unlikely to me. do they have commission or something? I am just curious because i worked at a hotel during undergrad like over 5 years ago and made 9. Usually burger flipper is min then they pay more if you have to have a decent appearance and be customer friendly. I don't think you have a understanding of the actual wages if you think retail pays the same as Mcdonald
I just told you I applied a Macy's and Circuit City, they pay minimum wage, well obviously CC is out of business, but I'm telling you what I know. you can make commission selling shoes and suits, but there is a long wait list for those jobs.
Do you see why it seems unlikely to me that Macy's would pay the same as fast food? We have a bunch of college age people here we should ask what retail pays these days in the hangout. I don't think you get min wage unless you are 16 working the drive.
You bring up some good points but just to point out that the immigrants who come here are largely a self-selected group of the most industrious and ambitious. The lazy ones likely aren't coming here. For lazy Americans we are stuck with them.
almost 25% of retail trade workers were paid fed min wage in 2009 http://www.bls.gov/cps/minwage2009tbls.htm#5
Yeah a Macy's employee has to have decent customer service and appearance so they get a premium over a fast food job. A laborer has to work his ace off and get dirty, take a shower after work if going out etc. I guess if you are saying they are taking less for a worse job because they cannot master the wizardry of a cash machine/computer we have found where we disagree as i think think a laborer job should make more in an open market.
So the vast minority were paid a min wage that had recently been increased. This to me means that job field was abolve min wage and not greatly affected by its increase. did you notice the leisure and hospitality section? That is hotels and restaurants. An industry full of illegal workers and also market based on its prices.
It is not a free market if they are only able to work in certain industries such as custodian, day labor and hospitality. do you understand how the free market has been skewed?
no, because there aren't any other jobs paying much more for their labor, because they are unskilled, and unskilled workers get a certain pay. they maybe limited, but there are jobs that illegals do that don't make minimum wage as discussed before
that is such crap. Unskilled labor in industries that are more regulated like in a refinery make way more.
no, you have no idea wtf you are talking about. i worked as a laborer in a refinery during a summer after high school. You don't need skillz at all. sledge hammer, fire watch, shovel. Not a trade labor. Just labor, do anything grunt.
do you think the state of texas takes illegals in consideration when they set $2.15 minumum for tipped workers? or did they take the actual tips they make in consideration?
I applied for a PERMANENT job at a refinery out of college, I had to take a skills test on tools that I didn't pass.
