When you spot the UPS driver and have to run to the door to get the package you've been waiting for. Maybe if it's spelled "spot-ups" it would help. As in "spot-up jumper".
Not 100% sure. But nba.com stats lists it as a “Playtype” they rank here: https://www.nba.com/stats/teams/spot-up And Celtics were #1 last year, too. here’s the full list of “Playtypes” NBA.com ranks
Spot up is basically that - you go spot up somewhere like in the corner for a three. When you get the ball, you immediately shoot it without any dribbles. Catch and shoot is when you shoot without dribbling, but isn't necessarily a spot up opportunity. In other words, you can go around screens, catch the ball while in motion and shoot. Or at least that's how I've always thought of it. The question for me is, are all spot ups catch and shoot opportunities? They list "spot up" as a "Playtype", but "catch and shoot" under "Tracking", so ... no idea.
I think Spot Up is a type of play. C&S is type of shot. Kind of like Post Up is type of play, and Turn-around-jumper is type of shot. There are a lot of overlap. Most shots from spot up are C&S. Most turn-arounds are from post up. I wonder, sometimes a spot up shooter pump fake and drive. Would that still count as spot up? According to the above understanding, it should.
I don’t agree at all, if that is what this NBA.com stat page is trying to say. First off, coaches never call for a “PnR handler” or “PnR man” play. Those are options of the same play. Similarly, pick and roll, isolation, and post-up, those can each result in a “Spot-Up” and “Cut”. Spot up, cut, handoff, and off screen are actions, not playtypes. Would we also call “Putbacks” a “Playtype”? This “Playtype” stat page of NBA.com has Freq%. I wonder how much above 100% the sum of the “playtypes” are, even after ignoring putbacks.
I guess "playtype" is probably a misnomer. It's more like a role in a play. For example, when you have a PnR play, it's not just a two-man game. You have a couple other guys spotting up somewhere. A play should involve the whole team, not just the guy with the ball. But these stats are about individuals, not about teams or sets of players.
Not just stationary. Stationary in the perimeter facing the basket. If you are stationary in the low post with back to the basket, that's post up.
I know but I screen shot the video and I know that Chop Shop talked strictly about the long range shooting .....hehe.
The changes Ime implements from game to game are so clutch. Sengun started slow this preseason. Basically running the offense from the top of the key setting picks and Ime got him back on the block realizing you have to mold your offense to your talent sometimes. This was not the case with our previous leadership.
He is a great coach. There is so much more structure and attitude than last year. It also helps that we have a backup PG who will be playing at all-star level half way through the year. What a difference at PG this year! Holliday hasn’t been very impressive, but even he is 100% better than Nix. I love that in game he is instructing and correcting errors in real time. It is such a relief from the arm crossed lump of coal we had last year.
Great observation. He said in a recent interview that there’s no doubt we’ll be going to Sengun in the post consistently this season. We need a steady source of points like that even if it’s at slightly below optimal TS%. Worth it for the stability. Our offense will need those type of workhorse points plus he’s unselfish so it’s his PPP will be great.
