^^^That’s why no matter what happens Tuesday, Rockets already won the lottery. Bucks Suns Sixers possibly Raptors Pistons
no he doesn't. he sees the talent. some rockets fans need to show a little self respect for goodness sake
I don't think so. He gets to build up a team with a lot of promising pieces. Also he gets a longer leash and thus more years employed as a coach with less pressure. His rep as a head coach take a huge hit if the Suns hire him and they stay disappointing which is highly likely to happen considering the lack of depth, draft picks, and trade assets they have.
You’re in denial if you don’t think Phoenix and Milwaukee are much more attractive head coaching job. Clutch is right, Rockets were wise to signing Udoka quickly because he most likely would’ve signed with the suns or Bucks if he knew those head coaching spots were open.
it's a two-way street though. Ime didn't have to sign the offer, he could waited until the Playoffs were over. Ime knew he was a sought after coach.
Well of course not. He's joining the Rockets staff as an assistant under Udoka, along with Frank Vogel and Mike Budenholzer (Monty Williams might have a spot as RGV coach). I haven't even seen his name listed as interviewing for positions, which is interesting. Not sure if that's a lack of interest from him or from teams. Not that I had a problem with the timing per se with Udoka's hire (if anything, maybe wait a day or two to double-check with Nurse/Kenny Atkinson/etc., but still move aggressively, especially if all parties were interested), but yeah I was definitely wrong about how many coaches would be canned. I know a lot of teams had disappointments, but geez, I guess it really is true that coaches are the first to go in those situations (and something has to change I guess). Seems like if Nuggets lost in 1st or 2nd rd, Malone definitely would have been gone (guess he could still be gone if they totally flame out against LAL), and I'm guessing Rivers is gone if they choke tomorrow. Though Rivers probably deserves it the most if that happens.
This is my thought now as well. Wonder if he’s really beating his self up for picking Houston But who knows because we do have assets that a lot of other teams don’t… And he did mention how he’s not ok with just making the 2nd round of the playoffs So maybe he also feels like with the right draft picks the right signings and or trades and if some players take leaps in their development we might have something here
Exactly. Ime isnt an idiot. He knew some other jobs would open up as teams got bounced out of the playoffs. He chose the Rockets as much as the Rockets chose him.
The Suns, Wolves, Clippers, Grizzlies are Declining or Imploding. Rockets Hopefully become a Really Good Playoff Team.
Sorry, if it wasn't clear, I was being facetious. That obviously isn't happening. MDA is coming back to assist Udoka along with Kevin McHale. (OK I need to stop with the dumb jokes...hurry up Ime and get your staff ready so I can move on to other terrible humor!)
It's not a no-brainer like you're thinking. Are they really more attractive jobs than Houston? You're taking over someone else's work in MIL and PHX and it's practically viewed as a failure if you don't make it to the finals your first year in. You also immediately put a huge media spotlight on yourself and that's probably the last thing Udoka needs right now after Boston. Some of yall are showing your trauma acting like we might not be good enough for Udoka or something when it should be the other way around. We have the young stars, draft picks, and cap space. If you're a coach seeking a fresh start, this is the ideal scenario.
Well, the signing is mutual. Udoka signed quickly because he didn't want another coach taking the job before him. Phoenix and Milwaukee have MORE pressure, you go there you are expected to win and you have to fix the issues that were the result of previous coaches and with Phx you are probably looking at a team that has a closed window. Aging CP3, Durant who is starting to look like he might have seen his best years, Ayton being kind of a bust, traded away draft picks...all they have is Booker. No way is that job that attractive. If they can't open their window again soon Booker is gone. Mil's window is still very much open. I do think that's a very attractive job since you have Giannis on the team and as long as he's there you're contending. That team just needs to be retooled. Maybe Ime would have liked that job but... The Rockets are a fresh slate with a lot of potential. They could finish 11th in the conference and that would be seen as a success, they could finish in the play-in and that would be considered a monumental success and turnaround. He can build something here. It's not like the Rockets have nothing, they have exciting prospects, assets, and a possible top 5 draft pick on the way. If a coach wants to build something not many better options.
Monty Williams, Nick Nurse, Atkinson, Budenholzer. Plus those up and coming coaches I layman would not know of. Tons of good coaches still available.
She better hope James Harden doesn't find his way here or Udoka's plans likely change. You bring in a coach killer like that, they are a dead man walking.
If Harden ends up in Houston it will be because Udoka wants him here. That makes me feel a little better. At least I hope the org is operating in Ime we trust.
