I'm starting my first day of jiu jitsu today. Any CFans users practice MMA?

I'm going for my first 1-on-1 training session for the new MMA gym I signed up for. They do all kinds of martial arts but I'm starting off with Jiu Jitsu.

Anybody else have experience training MMA? What should I expect?

Kneejerk to the I just got mugged thread?

I did when I was a teen, be prepared to be rubbing bodies with hairy sweaty men for extended periods of time.

Well for me... the rubbing bodies with hairy sweaty men WAS the downside side lmao.

Outside of that, no it's cool. You exercise, socialize, learn moves, and sometimes get to have some competitive fun pairing off with other students.

EDIT - I see you're doing 1on1 training, don't have experience and can't comment on that, I went to a group class with about 20 other people.

If you practice hard for three or four hours a day for a decade or so, you'll be pretty good. Maybe not UFC good, but you'll probably be able to fend off most unarmed solo muggers.

That's what I get for not reading to the end of the thread before replying.

I'm more of a judo guy(trained for 11 years from 5 to 16 years old) but i also did some different martial arts training.

Unfortunately i had to stop it due to medical reasons but i still got 2 tips:

    1. The most important tip is to know your limits, too many gets to excited and forget that they are just starters.

    2. I'm sure you are aware of the importance of stretching but i would recommend working hard on flexibility.
it's important and it will improve your abilty.

Lol I laughed, then I remembered one of the old school guys who took me under his wing when I played rugby teaching me the dirty tricks, mostly to get the opponent riled up and lose their cool.

Prepare to be abused by some blue belt female who weighs 50-100 pounds less than you. It humbles you really quick.
