but aren't we 3-2 in those five games? and what about the games against dal, sea, and pho? I am pretty sure McGrady did all he could do for the rocket to go on that nice road trip sweep.

as long as he's getting everyone else involved.

    100% agreed.

macfan: Kobe maybe forced more bad shots, but the point is he knows how to make it up: make sure his next 10 shot are high-percentage by driving or getting to the line. If you remember MJ's game that was the way he took himself out of shooting slump too.

    Unacceptable??????????????
the man is in a shooting slump. that's something he can't control. What he CAN control is intensity and effort. He played 46 minutes last night, and spent energy on both ends of the floor. He got timely steals and blocks and he also got timely shots when the Heat were making their run. He is a sensitive player and he plays better when he plays on instinct rather than think about the next shot. Part of the reason he's missing those shots is that he is doubting whether it's going to go in. Trust me man, T-Mac will get out of this. Perhaps two scoring titles are not enough proof for you. Plus his shooting is not as bad as the percentage indicates; he's been taking a lot of bail out shots when there was nothing going on offensively so he had to take the shots to beat the buzzer.

Are you saying he doesn't know how to get himself out of a shooting slump????? Scoring champ the last two years. I am sure he had some rough spots during those two years and came up with a big game the next night. After all, how can somebody average 32 POINTS PER GAME without knowing how to get himself going????

the answer is easy, get himself going by sacrafising his team. yeah 32 pt/g is great but he didn't get it by the right way and you can tell if 32 is more than twice the Ws your team got that's wrong.

also, came up with a big game the "next night" is totally a different story. what we said is don't shoot your way out of slump during the game. there're alot of better ways to get yourself out of a slump, take the ball to the hole aggressively and go to the line more, or defends better and rebounds better thus you can run more fastbreak for easy layup, or you can stay after the game and shoot thousands J before next night. but just don't keep shooting Js during the game when you have a cold hand and the game's on the line. got the point? Don't get me wrong, T-Mac is great but could be even better.

well I dont mind the # of shots though I wish he would get Yao and others more involved.

however, when someone is in a shooting slump I dont mind the number of shots as long as they are good shots and not forced.

or players will try to get to the FT line more often to shake themselves out of the slump.

HR, we are in agreement. If your shot isn't falling, you have to do other things to stay involved. Get to the free throw line, drive to the basket, and look for some easy shots. We were lucky to win last night given the number of heaves TMac took in the 4th quarter.

LOL!!! This has got to be the funniest thing I've read in a long time! I can just see Yao screaming that at Tmac. It'd be like in a B-movie: a record would scratch, the crowd would go silent, everyone (including the opposing team) would just stop and stare at Yao! You could hear the ball just bounce, bounce, bounce across the floor with nobody paying any attention to it.

Of course, that would only last a couple of seconds. Then Sura would dive for the ball, throw it out to Tmac, and Tmac would drain a 3 from who-knows-where.

Anyway, telling Tmac to not shoot as much is not a good option. That was one of our problems at the begining of the year...he was trying too hard to fit in.

well to answer your question the big man in van gundy's defensive scheme must defend the perimeter. patrick used to always have to go out and defend guards on pick n rolls and things of that nature. i saw a game on nba tv showing the knicks- heat from the 2000 playoffs in a game seven

Since most people think the Rockets don't need Yao to shoot, why not tell the rockets to trade him or not sign him after next season?! Let's all bring signs and boo him at the games. let's see where the rockets will be after that? I'm sure Tmac, James, Sura can carry the team! Oh yeah, shooting around 30% will be great! Can't wait to change the team name to the Orlando Magic.

I wouldn't care if McGrady took 40 shots a game if they were all good high percentage shots, but I think we all know that's not the case. T-Mac isn't a great pure shooter. His field goal percentage is nothing to write home about and his 3 point percentage is just mediocre. I don't know why he jacks up so many threes. He's among the league leaders in attempts. There are other Rockets who can drain the threes (Wesley, Barry, James).

I think everyone would agree that the point of any offense is maximizing the likelihood of scoring points, which means working for the highest percentage shot available. That's not going down the court and heaving up the first available shot, especially if you're shooting touch is gone. By continuing to shoot over and over again in order to work yourself out of a slump is insane. That's what practice is for. This is a game and the score counts. Plus, it shows a fundamental disrespect for your teammates and their ability to score.

I object to his shots only in one situation: when another player is hot and there's still plenty of time on the shot clock.

McGrady has a bad habit of ignoring a guy who's exploiting a match-up, and has hit 3 or so in a row, to take a 20 footer with a hand in his face with 18 left on the clock.

first of all - I love Tmac. do I mind taking shots too much? hell, yes. anyway... this is NBA. this is the show. NBA lost it's touch with true team-basketball. roots are forgotten. so... stop complaining! he is payed that much that he can take any shot he wants. but will he play smarter when playoffs are here, that is important question.

thar's why "Team" USA won bronze in Olympics.

    regards
